Not sure if want, part trois: Disgaea Infinite

I've long been a fan of Nippon Ichi's Disgaea series--thanks in no small part to the games' humorous dialogue and hugely over-the-top special attacks and effects.

I'm guessing the former will be present in the recently announced Disgaea Infinite, but I'm not so sure about the latter. After all, this PSP game, which will hit store shelves in the States this May, isn't a strategy RPG but a "visual novel."

What does that mean? Well, according the folks at NIS America, in Disgaea Infinite it means that "players will use 'time traveling' and 'possession' to solve mysteries."

The game begins with the player traveling back in time. "You then possess other characters to gather info/clues," explains an NIS America press release. "By possessing the characters, you can read their minds and see through their eyes. Some characters might be thinking something completely different as they talk to others. By possessing different characters, you will gradually find out who the true culprit is."

I'm still not sure if that sounds marvelous or meh--and this teaser trailer, used to promote the Japanese version of the game that was released late last year, doesn't help matters.

What do all of you think--does this sound brilliant or boring?

Not sure if want, part deux: Game 'apps' on the Amazon Kindle

Engadget.com recently reported that Amazon will soon roll out a "Kindle Development Kit" that will allow folks to create "active content" for the popular e-reader.

Although Amazon doesn't specify in its announcement what "active content" means, it more than likely means games. Heck, the image accompanying the announcement (below) shows a Sudoku-sporting Kindle.

It would be great if a few text adventures--or even graphic adventures--appear alongside all of the Brain Age-esque, solitaire and Sodoku games that are sure to swarm the Kindle Store when the service launches later this year.

Not sure if want: Xbox 360 Game Room

A few days ago (during the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show), the folks at Microsoft announced the "Xbox 360 Game Room," an application that will, when it's released this spring, allow 360 users to "relive the glory days of classic arcade games" by replicating "the old-school look, sound and feel of a retro video game arcade."

Regarding the latter, the "Xbox 360 Game Room" will allow users to "create a brand-new social environment [their] avatar can explore." It'll also allows them to "trick out [their] 'Game Room' ... and decorate each room with themes and animated icons from [their] favorite games."

More than 30 arcade, Atari 2600 and Intellivision games have been announced for the service so far, though only a few of them (namely the arcade versions of Crystal Castles and Tempest) seem worth the price of admission (40 Microsoft Points to play a game one time, 240 points to buy a game that can be played on a PC or Xbox 260 [not both] and 400 points to buy a game that can be played on both a PC and Xbox 360).

Here's a trailer that shows all (or at least most) of the above in action:

What do you guys and gals think of this? Is it appealing--or appalling?
