More like Mesmerizing Man

My only beef with the video below is that it lasts just 55 seconds and, thus, feels a bit unfinished.

Other than that, though, I think it's fabulous.

I especially like how the three panels at the beginning of the video match up with the different parts of whichever Mega Man tune is playing in the background. (The one on the left goes with the bass notes, the one in the middle goes with the melody and the one on the right goes with the synth-y notes the float above it all.)

By the way, if you didn't get your fill of mash-ups featuring the Old Spice Man and a random game song by watching the video above, you may want to watch this one, too.

'Open up a beer and you say get over here and play a video game'

When I first read that a girl named Lana Del Rey was earning rave reviews for a song called "Video Games," I expected said song to be both a lyrical and sonic throwback to the 1980s.

I didn't expect the song to sound like something Fiona Apple would write and release.

That's not a complaint, by the way. I quite like Lana's Marina and the Diamonds-esque delivery. I'm also fond of her tune's dirge-like quality.

All that said, I wouldn't mind hearing a blippy, chippy remix of "Video Games" that brings the song more in line with my early expectations.

Pomplamoose takes on the Angry Birds theme

I've been a fan of the Corte Madera, Calif.-based indie duo Pomplamoose ever since I heard their cover of Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" in late 2009.

They're sure to gain even more fans with their latest cover--of the Angry Birds theme song:

Another reason to become a fan of this YouTube-loving band: Their name is derived from the French word for grapefruit.

I thought the graphics were better in the GameGear version

How would Rebecca Black's rather inane (I know, that's putting it mildly) hit single, "Friday," look and sound if it were a GameBoy Color title? Here's how a couple of comedy writers who call themselves Smales and Payne recently answered that question:

The imaginary game depicted in the video above was made using MS Paint, by the way, while the audio was produced by Nick Maynard. (The latter can be downloaded here for a buck.)

Ashley Anderson + Crystal Castles = This

Aaron Keuter--an Atlanta-based motion graphics designer, animator, editor, compositer and director--recently created the following music video, set to Crystal Castles' "Xxzxcuzx Me," using some of artist Ashely Anderson's symmetrical drawings.

It sure is trippy, isn't it? Hopefully it didn't cause any of you to have an epileptic seizure. Anyway, to see more of Anderson's work, check out his Flickr photostream. Conversely, go here to see more of Keuter's work.

I'm always game for a Pac-Man-inspired music video

The members of Sweden's Bondage Fairies have described their band's sound as "Nintendo death punk," so it should be of little surprise to hear that they like to inject their music videos with a smidge of 8-bit revelry from time to time.

The video below, for the band's "Pink-Eye Paranoia" (from their 2006 album, "What You Didn't Know When You Hired Me") is a perfect example:

LTTGIMV: The Go! Team's Milk Crisis

LTTGIMV = Late To The Game-Inspired Music Video, by the way. (Yeah, I'm not sure why that acronym hasn't caught on either.)

True story: I was completely oblivious to The Go! Team before this past weekend, when I perused a commenter's YouTube channel.

I can barely understand a word of the song ("Milk Crisis") that accompanies the following video, but who really cares when said backdrop features dancing apples, bears, flowers and trees?

'Sock It 2 Me'

This recent NeoGAF thread got me thinking about one of my favorite game-inspired music videos: Missy Elliott's "Sock It 2 Me."

Say what you want about Ms. Elliott and/or her track, but the video? At the very least, you have to give the lady props for the Mega Man-esque getup.

The game-inspired music video that got away

What do you get when you mix game-inspired imagery with the melancholy title track of Moby's "Wait for Me" album? If you're Maik Hempel, you get the following:

"Its different to anything I've animated in the past, because essentially the whole clip is made of two-frame cycles," Hempel says of his creation. "I played a lot of Super Mario World to get the right look for it."

The video was concocted for a recent competition held by the artist formally known as Richard Melville Hall  and Genero.tv. Hempel didn't take home the top prize, but he was a finalist--an impressive feat considering the contest attracted nearly 500 submissions.

This is why I want a DSi

Singer/songwriter Billy Polard created the following music video (for his song, "Losing Light") using Nintendo's animation program, Flipnote Studio.

Apparently it took the Philadelphia-based artist "two weeks and hundreds of drawings" to make the melancholy clip.
