While we wait for me to get off my lazy butt and begin to play The Legend of Legacy (3DS), let's drool over its lovely packaging

An admission that should shock no one who has been visiting this blog for any length of time: since my copy of The Legend of Legacy arrived on our doorstep a couple of weeks ago, the only "action" it's seen so far has involved me groping and ogling and photographing its packaging--and not necessarily in that order.

All of the groping, ogling and photographing surely make sense, though, right? I mean, just look at the snapshot above, which showcases the art that graces the covers of this Japanese 3DS RPG's game and soundtrack cases.

The interior of The Legend of Legacy's game case is worthy of some meaningful stares, too, thanks to the attractive character art that peeks through its many openings.

The game's fold-up manual and cart label are lookers, too, as this next shot proves. I especially love the art showcased on the manual's front side, which calls to mind the art that's often been produced to promote Square Enix's wonderfully weird SaGa series over the years.

Unsurprisingly, the interior of The Legend of Legacy's soundtrack slipcase (below) is more of the same--as in, it's equal parts beautiful and SaGa-esque.

The backside of the game's case, and the backside of the soundtrack's slipcase, are nearly as pretty as their fronts. Seriously, the art included here is so SaGa it's almost ridiculous--which of course is why I love it so much. It almost seems inspired by art nouveau, but with a Japanese twist.

With all of that said, have any of you played The Legend of Legacy yet? If so, what do you think of it?

And if you haven't played the game, what do you think of the box art, cart label, soundtrack and more shown throughout this post?

Be aware of the old school quirk where you don't see a comparison of a weapons stats when you are playing this We-Swear-It's-Not-A-SaGa game :D

Now I really Suck at Japanese but I think it was random skill ups as well(wooohooo) and t hy r Devil spirit is awesome ^^ Anyway I never gave it enough time though since it wasn't my game and I just wanted to fiddle around and pretend I knew what was happening :)

Ughhh I wanna play this game if only for the reason that I get to experience playing a frog in a jrpg for the first time since Chrono Trigger~

I need to replay CT :(

Remember my first play through, it was just after a D&D campaign where my Paladin had been betrayed by his protégé so I was still sour and decided not to be a such a goody goody and... Well let's say Magus didn't join up my first play through. Didn't even know he could at first :D

Whatever that artwork is behind the game case in the first photo, it grabbed me by the balls. GORGEOUS! And PLEASE tell me that the characters peeking out from inside the case hint at an alternate, reverse cover.

One of my all-time favorite games. Frog's theme is the greatest music.

Ah, yes, I believe I've heard about this "quirk," Franggio, but thanks for reminding me of it. Gah!

Anyway, did you like what little you played of this game, at least?

thegaygamer.com said...

Ha ha! Yes, Zach, I understand that feeling :)

And I need to play CT for the first time, Franggio!

Sigh. I really need to get my butt in gear and play CT...

You know, Justin, I can't remember what the inside of the cover looks like when removed from the case. I don't believe it's an alternate cover, though, sadly.

Oh yes, I liked it indeed Bryan. Really liked the music and the battle theme was ok on my book. But tbh 3-4 hours isn't much time to say anything concrete. I ended up watching and annoying my friend as she played through it :)

I really should hit those shounen Mangas and school books again so I can play games myself one day. Just wish a day had like 37 hours so I could manage ;)

You really need to Bryan.
I know many of us rave about CT but it's a truly great game with or without Nostalgia glasses on :)
And as for what Justin said about Frogs theme? It's truly wonderful. And I like to add that CT and FFVI are the first games that brought a tear to my eye :) such Marvelous games that could produce such feelings in 16 bit format.

Oh man, you would love it! Pick up the DS copy if you ever get the chance, they did a really good job with the port!

Wow, that really is beautiful. I love the inlaid character art.
Is this a turn-based RPG or more actiony?

thegaygamer.com said...

Thanks for the added input, Franggio; I appreciate it :)

BTW, I too wish the day had 37 hours--sometimes, at least!

I think I'm going to grab the DS version soon, as it tends to be pretty cheap these days. Plus, I'm far more likely to play that than the SNES/SuFami original.

thegaygamer.com said...

Yep, that's the one that I'm planning to buy, Zach! BTW, I *have* experienced a good bit of the game, thanks to watching my older brother play it when we were kids, but I've never really played it myself. Plus, his playthrough of it was so long ago I don't really remember much about it--other than loving its graphics and music.

thegaygamer.com said...

It's turn-based, Francesca--much like the old Final Fantasy games. Or so it seems--I certainly haven't played it myself yet XD

ZACH said...

Ahhhh it's so funnnnnn, have fun re-experiencing it!

Franggio Hogland said...

If that is the way you prefer then go for it :) Plus it's waaaaay cheaper than an original release :) Still have my SuFam release on the shelf so I'm good but from time to time I see the PAL release in mint condition and I wanna bite...until I see that price that is :(

Haha, you beat me to it! I was going to do a post on the lovely packaging too XD (I am NOT complaining by the way, if I really wanted to do it I could've ages ago) I haven't started yet but I really want to listen to that soundtrack! Everything about the packaging is just so lovely, though

thegaygamer.com said...

I will--I hope!

thegaygamer.com said...

Hey, you should still do a post on it if you want, Anne! It's not like there can be too many posts about this topic, if you ask me :)

thegaygamer.com said...

Yeah, I'd prefer to save money, if at all possible! Plus, I'm more likely to play the portable version these days...

apricotsushi said...

Ha! Well, I may just do that if I ever have time!

I hear ya, Anne :|
