I may not have much (any) experience with Atlus' vaunted Persona series, but that has absolutely nothing to do with a lack of interest on my part.
In fact, I've been interested in this series since I first read about Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment back in the day.
Sadly, I can't tell you why I've yet to buy or play any of the games that have been released in English since the original, PlayStation release of Eternal Punishment back in 2000.
I can guarantee you, though, that the Persona-free portion of my life isn't going to last much longer. In part, that's because I recently bought a Vita (don't get too excited--it isn't due to be dropped on my doorstep for a week or so), and as such I'm planning to pick up a copy of Persona 4 Golden "tout de suite," as the French like to say.
Another reason my Persona virginity is likely to end soon is that I just watched the latest trailers for both Persona 4: Dancing All Night and Persona 5, and I'm now beyond stoked for both of these upcoming games.
Am I a bit bummed that I may not be able to play Persona 5 due to not owning a PS3 or PS4 (for the moment, at least)? Undoubtedly.
Persona 4 Golden and Persona 4: Dancing All Night are sure to keep my busy for some time, though, and after that, who knows? Maybe I'll get such a kick out of these Vita titles that I'll finally be willing to buy a PS3 just so I can play Persona 5 (and a few other games).
How about you? Are you, too, frothing at the mouth for either of these delicious-looking games?
I can't control how excited I am for P5. 😆 Lost count the amount of times I've watched the trailer!
ReplyDeletePersona is a fun series to check out, Bryan. You have a PSP right? Persona 2 is well worth your time.
Nope. I played about 20 hours of Persona 3 FES and it didn't really do anything for me. I gave it up and probably won't pick up another game.
ReplyDeleteThat Persona 5 trailer is probably one of the more eye catching trailers I've seen in awhile. I kind of wish that Atlus would post a version of the Dancing All Night trailer that has no talking.
ReplyDeleteYes, Adam, I have a PSP--and soon, a Vita, too. So, conceivably, I could play Persona 1 through 4, I believe!
ReplyDeleteReally, Justin? What was it that turned you off about the game, if you don't mind me asking? I'm curious!
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, I agree with you about the DAN trailer(s), Sam. Just show us some straight-up gameplay (with soundtrack, of course), I say!
ReplyDeleteI was edging away from the idea of buying Dancing All Night because I suck at rhythm games, but the trailer pulled me back in. It's a good soundtrack and it makes me want to dive back into Persona 4 Golden.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the impending Vita arrival!
I've never played anything in the Persona series either but I'm so excited for Dancing All Night, I grab any rhythm game I can get my hands on. I have Persona 4 Golden sitting on my shelf but I don't have enough space on my memory card to play it. Damn these expensive proprietary memory cards...
ReplyDeleteGoing for the white Vita? I reeeeeeeally want one of those!
ReplyDeletePINK and white, Adam. PINK and white :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terry! I even have a game waiting to be played on it ^^
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, that's one thing I haven't accounted for yet--a memory card. Gah! Guess I'll have to shell out even more money shortly :|
ReplyDeleteYEAAAH! I was going to ask which one you got. GOOD CHOICE.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for both of these games! I didn't even like P3 for the longest time, but i've gotten over it and i actually like P3P a lot more than the console version.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited about Dancing All Night that i ordered the Crazy Value Pack, but shortly afterward realized that it might be kind of difficult to get the DLC running on my Vita since i'm running a US PSN account on it and Vita isn't friendly to swapping regions. Hopefully it won't be that bad.
I'm curious about how you'll react to Kanji, the fourth game's ambiguously gay party member. I haven't reached him yet, but have used him a little in P4 Arena and find his weapon of choice hilarious. He beats opponents into submission with a folding chair, then slouches down into it after he wins for some post-fight R&R. You don't mess with a guy like that!
ReplyDeleteProbably not the best one to start with! I assume PS2 version? P3 has horrid AI control, the party numbers are super dumb which makes for a very frustrating experience. The PSP version of P3 is much better as they allow you to control each party member separately.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend P4 for anyone wanting to try Persona for the first time (even the PS2, as it allows individual control of each person during combat).
Oooh!! Can't wait for P5! The trailer looks amazing. Love the music! The art style is really cool. I'm super curious to find out how the game works. I notice they are all wearing masks, could that be the Persona link? Another idea, could they be the persona themselves? (some sort of symbiotic relationship) I saw a comment about the trailer, pointing out that you are fighting other personas instead of just shadows! So I wonder what that means?? Still too many questions haha I hope we won't have to wait too long for it.
ReplyDeleteThe Persona Dance one - hhahah
First off, I really like the theme song!! http://youtu.be/KnLIwC713hU
The remixes of the various songs from P4 are pretty cool (I think it's particularly cool that Towa Tei has remixed one! Towa Tei is one of my favourite artists, used to be a member of Deee-Lite).
I don't know if I'll get this game though. Will have to see how this game actually plays etc
I know, right? I WANT IT NOW!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insights, Igor. I'm planning to start with P4G (Vita) myself. If I like that, I'll try P3P and maybe others...
ReplyDeleteYou're the second person in this comment thread to say you prefer P3P to the other versions of P3, finchikins. Guess I'll have to grab that version--should I ever get any version of the game, I mean :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I've read about him, Jess. I'm curious as to what I think of him, too...
ReplyDeleteAre you not much of a rhythm game fan, Igor? I seem to remember you saying you suck at them, but I may be thinking of someone else...
ReplyDeleteYes I am sucky at them hehe
ReplyDeleteBut I may make excuse for the Persona 4 dance game haha
Ah, then my memory's better than I thought :) Anyway, here's hoping you make an exception for this game--and that you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI am so, so looking forward to both of these games, but especially Dancing All Night. Rise is my favourite character in all gaming characters, and if the game is even halfway decent it will known Miku off as my favourite rhythm game of all.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in Dancing All Night but I still don't own a Vita and I still can't justify getting it due to lack of exclusives I'm interested in and those memory cards. Maybe sometime in the future I'll finally get one.
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly can't blame you for failing to buy a Vita, Will, as I dragged my feet for a LONG time in that area. Anyway, it's still good to know that you're interested in Dancing All Night.
ReplyDeleteI just found the dungeon crawling dull and uninteresting. The enemies were...eh...and the combat was boring. I liked the characters. I liked the daily action sequence. But...the other half of the game just didn't interest me at all after the first...ten hours.
ReplyDeleteOnly because it's Rise and the Persona 4 music. Any other combination just wouldn't have done it for me, haha.
ReplyDeleteIf you like JRPGs, then the Vita is essential because it has loads of exclusives, actually :-)
ReplyDeleteOh really? I may have to look into that then.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, but how many of them actually are good, Matt? And I ask this as someone who just bought a Vita, of course. (What I mean is, only a handful of Vita RPGs interest me at the moment.)
ReplyDeleteIf you come across some that stick out at you, Will, let me know!
ReplyDeleteI will admit, the dungeon crawling can be a bit grindy, in #3 (you had to advance thru the tower in #3) more so than #4 (you pretty much had to reach the boss in #4) though they are similar. #4 has more social link stuff to do in between. I found the best way was to keep dungeon crawling minimal, do couple levels each day or so in game. In #4 you also had to think about social links.
ReplyDeleteAhh! Cool! I received a [generous] amount of money back from my tax returns, and I'm severely tempted to make the same dive on a Vita/Persona 4 as well! If only time was a thing I had more of..
ReplyDelete(by the way what color did you get?)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I've never minded grinding (that's what he said!), so maybe this aspect won't bother me in either game?
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. Time! If you figure out how to get more free time, Zach, please let me know :)
ReplyDeleteI got one of the pink and white Japanese ones XD
ReplyDeleteI should have known! I look forward to the unboxing. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt involves too much math for my liking, probably.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Thanks :)
