Actually, I pre-ordered a number of 3DS games--Japanese and otherwise--in the last week or so, with two of the "otherwise" games being Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
Getting back to The Legend of Legacy, though--as I've said before, this Japan-only (for the moment, at least) 3DS RPG is being developed for FuRyu by a bunch of the same people who worked on Square Enix's now-defunct SaGa series back in the day.
That, along with the game's interesting art style and unique pop-up-book world, was enough to push me to pre-order a copy (it's supposed to hit Japanese store shelves on Jan. 22) via amiami.com recently, despite the fact that I'm sure to flounder horribly while attempting to play through it.
While I was pre-ordering The Legend of Legacy, I also pre-ordered a copy of Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives, which combines six of the Sega 3D Classics eShop titles that have been released in that region so far (Fantasy Zone, Ecco the Dolphin, Out Run, Shinobi III, Space Harrier and Streets of Rage) as well as two bonus games--updated versions of Sega Master System's (or Sega Mark III's) Out Run 3D and Space Harrier 3D titles.
This budget-priced compilation is set to hit the streets (again, in Japan only--at least for now) on Dec. 18.
Considering Nintendo announced its intentions to publish Level-5's Fantasy Life in the West shortly after I picked up a Japanese copy of that game, I'm hoping these recent pre-orders of mine will prompt similar announcements regarding The Legend of Legacy's and Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives' overseas prospects.

Is S.T.E.A.M. digital only?
Nope. Not in North America, at least. I pre-ordered the physical version of the game via Amazon.
That is good news to hear.
I don't know for sure that it's going to get a retail/physical release in other regions, mind you. In NA, though, it's definitely getting one :)
Good thing I'm in NA.
Yes! Now we just need an actual release date both for this game and for Majora's Mask 3D...
Weee, I placed my preorder for Majora's Mask too! And STEAM looks like it's gonna be pretty rad after that last direct. It's hard to have any doubts in Intelligent Systems, but the concept took a little longer than usual to sell me on.
Fingers crossed for a Legend of Legacy localization!
Yay! Majora's Mask 3D fans unite! :)
As for STEAM: I was mostly behind it from the beginning due to the involvement of Intelligent Systems, although I have to admit the art style's never really done it for me.
Still, I'm going to push those feelings aside and buy and play it anyway, as I'm sure the final product will be well worth playing.
Finally, YES, let's hope someone announces a Legend of Legacy localization soon. And maybe one for the Sega 3D Classics compilation, too.
And also one for Dragon Quest VII...
Yeah, I'm not the most patriotic american in the first place, but I'm willing to set that aside for some fun. I am intrigued at the deathly silence shrouding Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei, though! I really wish they'd shed some light on that. :'(
And at least we got the promise of more 3D Classics for the beginning of 2015! I dunno about the compilation, but I'm stoked to see some Opa Opa Bros!
And... don't remind me..
I wouldn't worry about FE x SMT. I have a feeling everyone's being tight-lipped about it because it's not far enough long to show or discuss--or at least that's my hope!
And as for Opa Opa Bros: I'm excited for that, too! It won't be on the compilation, though, as that only includes the first Fantasy Zone 3D Classic. (And Opa Opa Bros is included with Fantasy Zone II, right?)
That bothers me. It was talked about before launch of the WiiU. We're 2 years in I assume they started at least 1 year before. The usual 3 -5 dev cycle they should have at least some screen shots done, concepts, hell even a napkin sketch would be good.
Maybe they do have those things but just don't want to show them yet? I don't know, sadly. I do hope we see something related to it soon, though.
Let's hope so... I trust Intelligent Systems, any other group and I would be much more worried. And I'm not quite sure which is where--that compilation game and the new 4-5 that we're getting on the eShop in early 2015 are kinda all mixed together in my head. I'm pretty sure you're right, though!
I agree. With Intelligent Systems at the helm of FE x SMT--or at least involved somehow--I'm not as worried as I might be otherwise...
It's one of the 3 games that made me get a WiiU at launch. Only Bayo2 is out. I don't mind waiting but the software drought has been dessert dry.
What's the other game, Chief? Zelda?
The other was Xenoblade Chronicles X, called X at the time.
Oh, right! Yes, I'm looking forward to that one, too. I think.
I need to play the first though.
Wait, you're looking forward to the second, but you haven't yet played the first?!?
Yeah, I put in 10 hours and it hadn't hooked me. You don't need to play the first to enjoy it, they say. Although I have a feeling porting it to the New 3DS is to give more people a chance to play it at a reasonable price. Minus the New 3DS cost, assuming you sell the old 3DS at a reasonable rate.
Ah, I see. I thought you meant you hadn't played it at all! I played about 10 hours of the first one myself, and although I liked some aspects of it a great deal (the open world, the quests, the soundtrack), other aspects of it left me kind of cold (including, or maybe especially, the battle system). Given that, I kind of doubt I'll pick up the n3DS port, assuming it comes to NA, but who really knows with me? :P
Ah, I just love the box art on this one! Honestly I don't know much about how it plays, but I'm with you about the awesome art style! Maybe I'll preorder it with some impending birthday money...
The box art is great, isn't it? Now I'm even happier than I was before that I've already pre-ordered it. Anyway, yes, you should get it, too. That way, you can help me when I get stuck ;)
