I don't know if you heard, but Nintendo finally, officially announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for 3DS during yesterday's Nintendo Direct.
That "revelation" excited me less than it excited some folks, I'm sure--in part because Nintendo has been teasing this sucker for what seems like eons now--but it excited me nonetheless.
Why? Because I've never played this particular Zelda adventure. My older brother and I owned a copy of the Nintendo 64 original back in the day, but I never actually played it myself--though I did watch him play through a good chunk of it.
Anyway, I've wanted to experience it for some time now, but I've failed to do so because, well, I just haven't been all that interested in picking up a copy of the game and then shoving it into and playing it on my mothballed Nintendo 64. (I know I could buy it via the Wii's eShop, too, but I'm even less interested in going that route these days.)
Are any of you also Majora's Mask virgins who will be, uh, addressing that issue when the 3DS remake drops next spring?

I haven't played this one either and this seems like as good an opportunity as any, got me a little tempted. That said I still haven't played Link Between Worlds either..
I, too, have yet to play this despite Ocarina being one of the few RPG's (okay, 'action' RPG's) that I've actually invested much time in). I believe I even have it on a GameCube compilation or something (>.<)
Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone, Michael :) Also, I would HIGHLY recommend playing A Link Between Worlds. I loved that game to death when I blasted through it earlier this year--and, as you may remember, I'm hardly the world's biggest Zelda fan.
I have complicated feelings about Zelda. There's a lot of watching someone else play resentment that was finally alleviated when I played the GBA and DS games and loved them. So when a Zelda game is coming to handheld, it just resonates more.
Ah, did you also spend a lot of time watching someone else play earlier Zelda games, Jade? Perhaps a sibling or a friend?
I swear I've spent more time watching others play Zelda games than playing them myself. Which, sometimes, I prefer, I have to say. But more and more, I want to play them myself.
I played Majora's Mask on the Zelda compilation for GameCube and enjoyed it, but I don't think I got very far. I have it on Wii U through the Wii's eShop, but I made even less progress in the Virtual Console version. I'll buy the 3DS version for sure.
Knowing this is finally on the way is the last nudge I need to finally complete Ocarina of Time 3D.
I love that even though you haven't played much of the other two versions of MM you currently own, you're still going to buy the 3DS remake, Terry :)
Why is that, BTW? Do you think you'll be more likely to give it a proper chance if you can play it on the go via the 3DS? Or are you just unable to resist the call of MM, for whatever reason?
I'm so happy this was finally announced! We are all in for a treat, being able to see Majora's Mask get the re-release it deserves. Going to be very fun hearing your own thoughts Bryan once you start playing. :)
After all of the teasing, it would've been pretty cruel if Nintendo never actually made and released a remake, right?
Anyway, I'll definitely do my best to share my thoughts here and on Twitter once I finally get my hands on this sucker.
Random-ish aside: I wonder if Nintendo will release some sort of LE/SE new 3DS XL alongside the game??
I think the 3DS version will be better, with the graphical and gameplay tweaks Nintendo will make. The streamlined controls for Ocarina of Time 3D were the only way I got through the Water Temple.
I started a reply that decided to wander into other thoughts and get long-winded enough to balloon into a blog post: http://monkeytypeh.blogspot.com/2014/11/nostalgia-resentment-and-regret.html
I love it, Jade! Off to read your post now...
The best part of this post is "Majora's Mask virgins". LOL
I'm one btw. Never played the game. Never played Ocarina until I got a 3DS. It'll be nice to finally see why this game is so popular with more hardcore Zelda fans.
Ha ha! I always aim to please, Frank. Or at least *almost* always!
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how you react to this game, given your experience (or lack of) with this portion of the Zelda series.
I played and loved OOT as a teen, but haven't played it since, so it'll also be interesting to see how I react to MM, I think.
Here's hoping we both like it and don't regret spending our money on it :)
