I love everything about this Legend of Legacy (3DS) trailer except for maybe the English text

Actually, I guess you could say the English text in the following trailer--which, as I mentioned in the header above, is for the upcoming 3DS RPG called Legend of Legacy--is good for chuckle, but it also could be described as cringe-inducing.

That said, pretty much every other aspect of this rather lengthy preview--yes, including the pop-up scenery--pleased me, so who really cares it if featured some wonkily translated text?

By the way, if this is the first time you've heard of Legend of Legacy, here's the gist: it's an RPG that's being made by a bunch of former Square Enix staffers, many whom have worked on some of that company's SaGa games.

Oh, and the finished product is set to be released in Japan on Jan. 22 carrying a price tag of 5,980 yen (about $55).

Oooooh, that Owen. He was adorable. It looks pretty solid, although I don't like the idea of scenery that pops up and leaves. I feel it would make the whole game feel like one of those rooms in a Zelda game where the tree roots or fire or whatever pop up and you have to sort of blindly find your way through. Frustrating...

Which Zelda game is that, Justin? I don't remember one that has a feature like this, although admittedly I've missed a fair few Zelda games over the years. Anyway, I actually kind of like the pop-in scenery here, although I can see how it could possibly become annoying over time.

I can't say I enjoyed it. The music was fantastic and the visuals interesting. I have a feeling like, I was supposed to learn something about the game or gameplay but didn't.

I have a feeling this trailer was supposed to serve as an introduction to the game's characters and visual style, Chief. After all, no battles were shown at all, and that's a pretty big part of an RPG. So, hopefully they'll reveal more on those in an upcoming trailer? In the meantime, I personally really like the visual style and the music, and knowing it's being made by a bunch of folks who worked on the SaGa series is enough to get me excited about this one :)

I'm interested after seeing the trailer, but that pop-up scenery really bugs me. It's the sort of thing that works well in a dream level where everything is supposed to feel unstable, but I don't think I'd want it to be an entire game.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what it's like to deal with something like that for an entire game, Terry. I'm not all that worried about it at the moment, but that doesn't mean it won't prove to be annoying in the long run :)

Ocarina of time did it with fire. Wind Waker did it with tree roots. I'm sure that's not all of them.

Wow, I'm embarrassed to say this, but I don't remember the OOT bits, and I probably didn't play far enough in WW to even know about its "bits" (unless I'm simply not remembering them as well).

That frog character is so adorable. I kinda want to to play the game just for him.

Oh, I can't imagine you're alone in feeling that way, Scarritt. Lots of people are sure to find the frog irresistible. Also, he reminds a bunch of people of one of the characters from Chrono Trigger. Me, I like all of the characters I've seen so far!

Saw this the other day. I thought it was interesting there was so much english text in japanese trailer! Made me think that perhaps they are thinking of bringing it to the west.
It seems like it might be an interesting game (seems to have parallels to Bravely Default in the art dept).

I don't know if the English text in the trailer means anything, Igor, especially since the text in question is so terrible XD I hope you're right, though, as we could really use another RPG in the West, I think!

I must've been grouchy. I sounded like a jerk.

Nah, you didn't sound like a jerk. Regardless, it's always OK for you (or others) to not like this or any other trailer I mention here, Chief!

My Goddess, Eloise is so sexy and cool. All the characters are neat, and its nice to see the watercolor back. Great world design. The town map reminds me of Bravely Default.

Yes to all of what you said here, Xinen! I really think I'm going to have to pre-order this sucker soon XD
