Well, hello there, beautiful piece of Kagero: Darkside Princess (Vita) box art

Full disclosure: I've sadly never experienced any of Tecmo's trap-setting Deception (Kagero in Japan, for most part) titles.

I may have to rectify that once I finally get a Vita (in 2015? or maybe I'll break down later this year and buy one...) given the beauty of the following piece of box art, which was produced for the Japanese version of seres' fourth game (called Kagero: Darkside Princess in its home region and Deception IV: Blood Ties elsewhere).

Granted, there's no guarantee the North American release's packaging will feature the same radiant--and more than a bit fanservice-y, I have to admit--illustration that'll grace the cover of its Japanese counterpart, but I'm hopeful the folks at Tecmo will do the right thing and leave well enough alone when they bring the game to western shores in a few months.

Are any of you Deception/Kagero fans? Even if you aren't, are any of you planning to pick up this entry in the series--either because of the box art above or despite it?

Really, REALLY tempted to get a Vita... it's so cutting edge it makes the 3DS look like a yo-yo. I just need the right motivation to push me over the edge. Street Fighter X Tekken and Sly Cooper are a good start, but I'll need more than that.

I think I own one of the Tecmo torture porn games for the original Playstation, but never got around to playing it. Seemed like an original concept, though. It's like Home Alone, but bloodier!

I don't care that the Vita is cutting edge, but I still want to get one at some point. Hopefully there'll be some more color options (for the system) once I finally get around to doing it.

Also, I like your description of this game/series! Sounds pretty spot-on to me :)

I'll be buying this for Vita. I haven't played enough of the series to be considered a fan, but I played enough of the second one in college (so many, many years ago) to be intrigued by where they're at with it now. It's a shame it's coming out so close to Final Fantasy X HD, though.

Do you have any issue with this sequel's more anime-influenced art style, Terry? I've heard some folks complaining about that on line.

Also, I'm guessing you liked the second game well enough? I'd like to give the series a go sometime soon, but I'm not entirely sure where I should start...

I'm hoping Retr0 might pick it up for Vita, I absolutely loved Trapt, though I'm reluctant to finish it. New game, new game, new game every so often, it's kinda short.

Why are you reluctant to finish Trapt, Triseratops? Also, I don't suppose you've played Deception III? Someone else recommended that one earlier and I really like the idea of playing a PS1 game sometime soon...

I have no issues with the art style. I played it on the PS1, so I wasn't exactly blown away by the graphics. Given the nature of the gameplay, softening it a bit with anime graphics would be welcome. I don't need my Saw-style game looking like a Saw movie. lol

Interesting take on the situation, Terry! I'm actually not sure how I feel about it myself. Of course, I've yet to play a game in the series, so I really have little right to say anything about it!
