A piece of news that should surprise no one: I'm eyeing up another Japan-only 3DS puzzler

Pretty soon, my "collection" of Japanese 3DS games will consist solely of import-only puzzlers.

OK, so that's a bit of an overstatement, but only a bit. After all, I already have Osawari Tantei Nameko Daihanshoku (aka Touch Detective: Funghi's Big Breed), and pretty soon I'll have Zoo Keeper 3D, too.

Should I add Rocket Company's Kumamon ★ Bomber Puzzle de Kumamon Taisou to that list in a few months--and I likely will, as I've already pre-ordered it via AmiAmi.com--import-only puzzlers will make up just under 50 percent of my Japanese 3DS games collection.

This fruit-matching game's box art can be seen here, by the way, while additional screenshots of it can be seen over at japanese3ds.com.

Kumamon ★ Bomber Puzzle de Kumamon Taisou will hit Japanese store shelves--as well as the 3DS eShop, I'm guessing--on March 13 carrying a price tag of ¥5,040 (about $50).

Well, it doesn't look incredible, but I do like me some bears. (Uh, not the metaphorical kind. Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Speaking of puzzle games, have you ever played Guru Logic Champ? It was one of the last titles released by Compile, the creators of Puyo Puyo and Zanac, and it's a real gem in the GameBoy Advance library. You turn the screen at ninety degree angles and fire blocks into a playfield, covering up the red squares to reveal images. The game makes good use of the GBA's Mode 7 features and has an extremely likable cast of weird duck-like creatures.

Oh, yeah, it's hardly amazing, GB. Still, I like me a good puzzler and this one hits just enough of the bullet points on my "must have" (in a game) list that I'm picking it up.

Plus, I like its box art :P

As for Guru Logic Champ: oh, yes, I've heard of it. In fact, I bought a copy of it loooooong ago. I've even reviewed it: http://www.thegaygamer.com/2011/11/great-gaymathon-review-43-guru-logi.html

I've also featured (part of) its instruction manual in a "Manual Stimultion" post: http://www.thegaygamer.com/2011/11/manual-stimulation-guru-logi-champ-gba.html

Really, it's a crying shame that copies of it are so hard to come by these days. Also a crying shame that it never earned a western release.

I gotta say, I love this obsession of yours, Bryan! I'm always up for a cute puzzle game myself.

Are you familiar with Kumamon? He's actually the mascot for Kumamoto prefecture! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumamon_(mascot) He's one of the most popular prefecture mascots, and in Japan you can find him on TV shows and all other sorts of stuff. Can't believe he even has his own games!

Also, just a side note: I'm not sure how often you preorder from Ami Ami, but a word of caution: they order very limited stock based on how many preorders they receive, so they're not too fond of people canceling preorders. So if you preorder from them, I would suggest only doing it if you're pretty sure you're going to end up buying the item.... Apparently they will blacklist you if you cancel too many orders or have a high cancelled to purchased ratio. Not sure if you're aware, but if you are, sorry to repeat what you already know >_<

OK, now I'm going to have to look up this Hot Potato game. I don't remember it!

Hey there, Anne! I'm glad to hear you like this obsession -- especially since it's unlikely to go away anytime soon :)

I *did* buy Airu de Puzzle, BTW. Some time ago, in fact. I've still yet to play it, though >_<

Brian at the Japanese 3DS tumblog actually beat you to the punch in educating me about Kumamon. That said, I didn't he was so ... pervasive. How weird/interesting/cool is that!

Also, thanks for the heads up RE: AmiAmi. I didn't know that! Thankfully, I'm not planning to cancel my pre-order, and it appears it hasn't been canceled by anyone there, so it seems I'm OK for now.

Anyway, I'll def. keep in mind for the future that they hate people who cancel pre-orderes, though!

I don't know about you, Jess, but I think Hot Potato probably gives Guru Logic Champ a run for its money in terms of quality, graphics, gameplay, etc ;)

That does look pretty cool I have to say, but it looks to similar to that bloody Facebook game that people keep inviting me to play. Grrr! :P
