... I came across the following photos of its packaging and contents over at tinycartridge.com yesterday.
Now I'm feeling a bit torn about the whole thing. Do I drop $49 on the Collector's Edition and get a soundtrack CD with some sweet cover art (as well as a few other things I'll probably look at once and then file away), or do I save $10 and buy the regular release instead?
As of now I'm thinking I'll go for the former, as I'd like Nintendo of America to release more such Collector's Edition in the future.
Both editions of Bravely Default will hit North American store shelves on Feb. 7, by the way. (Both versions of the game can be pre-ordered here.)
Which one will you be picking up--assuming you're interested in picking up a copy of the game at all?

That's just gorgeous. I do believe I am going to have to spring for the collectors edition...
I'm not planning on picking it up, but if I were, I'd go for it, an extra $10 for so many little bonuses seems pretty great (and that book looks thick!)
I see they dropped the figure that was included in the UK release, probably just as well. :) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/the-x-button/2013-12-11
I think it'd be worth it! Though, I would hope that they don't do what they did with the SMTIV collectors edition and only put like 5 *extremely short* songs on the "soundtrack". Especially for a JRPG of this caliber! It's probably got a stupendous ost. What are your concerns? Just the extra money?
Well, at least I'm not alone. And, hey, it's only $10 more than the regular version--and it's also for a worthy cause, right?
You're not planning to pick up any version of the game, Michael? Why is that, if you don't mind me asking?
Also, YES, it's just as well that they dropped the figure that was included with the UK release. There's no way I'd pay for that sucker!
Yeah, that's definitely a concern, Zach--that the "soundtrack" will far less impressive than I'm hoping it'll be.
Other than that, the only reason I had decided to pass on it until now is that I really just want the game. All the other stuff likely will be shoved into a closet or drawer after I look at it once, so why bother with it?
I've wanted Bravely Default ever since it arrived in Japan a while back, and so I'm extremely excited that it's finally coming westward. As soon as I saw that latest trailer in the recent Nintendo Direct, I rushed to Amazon to place my preorder on the limited edition.
My only complaint is that the included soundtrack doesn't have the awesome cover art that the Japanese version has. I could hang something that gorgeous on my wall.
Hello there! I don't believe I've seen the Japanese soundtrack's cover art. Guess I have to hit up Google as soon as I hit "post" :)
Well, I can't fault you for not picking it up if you're just not really into RPGs, Michael!
4 Heroes of Light was pretty tough, by the way--or it could be if you didn't grind.
I believe you can somewhat set the difficulty of this one, by the way, but I have a feeling that won't help you enjoy it more, so you're probably better off passing on it.
Oh noooooo, I wasn't gonna get the collector's edition but now I want it. What have you done? :P The extra $10 sure does net you a lot of goodies, though!
Maybe I'll borrow it from a friend at some point if I decide it becomes irresistible later. I know some people who will definitely be picking it up, so I'll have lots of chances.
Yeah, sorry about that, Riven. But like you said, the extra $10 gets you quite a bit of stuff!
There you go! You can't go wrong by taking that route, if you ask me.
That's a good point! It is easy to let a bunch of junk pile up because it'd be fun to have it for all of a couple minutes.
You definitely won't be disappointed! (and by the way, this is Espiga, long time no see! I finally got around to registering a Disqus.)
I read somewhere the soundtrack included has 10 songs and is about 35 minutes long which isn't to bad.
Yeah, I've come to realize in recent years that I rarely use any of stuff like this, so I'd rather just buy the game in most cases.
10 songs isn't bad at all, if you ask me. Thanks, Sam!
Ah, hello again, Espiga--and welcome back!
I'm just buying the standard edition. The extras (other than the soundtrack CD) hold little interest for me. The demo can't get here soon enough.
Yes, I'm very much looking forward to the demo, too, Terry. Do we know when it'll hit the North American eShop?
I've heard the music in this game is good, Zigfried, and that's definitely part of the reason I'm considering picking up this Collector's Edition. By the way, have you played the Japanese version, or have you watched YT videos of it?
Ah, that's what I was just wondering! Jan. 2 sounds great to me. Also, glad you're enjoying the game so far, Igor :)
According to last week's Nintendo Direct, the demo is due Jan. 2, and will be a side story worth a few hours. Your items and Street Pass tags transfer over to the main game.
Oh, sounds great to me! Thanks, Terry :)
I spent around 15 hours in the demo lol
If it's the same as what we got here you can unlock 7 bonuses (they're basically little item packs) that will get transferred to the main game.
Also with the village reconstruction, when you get the main game, 20 villagers will get transferred (gives you a great head start in the main game).
Cool! Very much looking forward to trying the demo--and of course the full game, too--for myself!
Neither! I've been hoping/waiting for a US release, so I've valiantly resisted spoiling even the least little bit. But I did listen to the whole soundtrack, and it really makes me want to play the game.
Just in case you didn't know the demo has no spoilers, it stands alone and merely shows off the jobs and combat systems
