Don't you just hate it when an interesting looking game completely avoids your radar? I sure do.
Which is why I was really annoyed with myself this past weekend when I came across Keita Takahashi's weirdo (I mean that in a good way) Tenya Wanya Teens for the first time.
For the similarly uninformed: Tenya Wanya Teens is a two-player experience that puts gamers into the shoes of one of a handful of very Keita Takahashi-esque boy characters and then tasks them with brushing their teeth, taking showers, peeing--you know, the sorts of actions that appear in pretty much every video game under the sun (or not)--all on command and all while avoiding humiliating themselves in front of their girlfriends by undertaking the wrong actions.
Oh, and each of the aforementioned actions are input using a mammoth 16-button controller--or at least they were during all of the game's demo sessions held to date.
Given the above, along with the fact that the game hasn't been seen in public for some time now, I'm not feeling very confident at the moment that Tenya Wanya Teens will ever see the light of day.
One possible solution that's been mentioned elsewhere but is unlikely to be put to use would be to bring the game to the Wii U (via the eShop, I suppose) and in the process map the inputs to virtual buttons that appear on the system's GamePad.
That said, I'd also love to own one of those crazy 16-button controllers, so I wouldn't complain if the game's backers, The Wild Rumpus and Venus Patrol, go some other route instead (or as well).

I think the Wii U controller's touch screen is single touch so it might not work on the Wii U. PC is probably a more realistic candidate for a port.
Hmmm, I don't know, Sam--I'm pretty sure you only have to hit one button at a time (as I think you're only instructed/commanded to do one activity at a time), so I think the Wii U would still work. That said, I doubt it's even a consideration for the publisher(s).
I actually think the most likely candidate for release at the moment is the iPad, as the action could take place in the upper part of the screen while the virtual buttons could take up the lower part--although that sounds a bit cramped to me.
As for a PC release: at first, I couldn't fathom how that would work, but it just hit me--the buttons would be related to keyboard keys, wouldn't they? If so, yes, I could see that as a possibility, too.
Sadly, none of these options involves releasing those cool custom controllers--and I really want one!
Yeah I don't have anything like that Animal Crossing (for a lot of people it's that and/or Fire Emblem). My top 6:
Shinobi: 64:13
Super Mario 3D Land: 48:42
Mighty Switch Force: 11:11
Mighty Switch Force 2: 9:19
Street Pass Mii Plaza(!) 6:55
Code of Princess: 5:49
64 hours with Shinobi, eh, Michael? I'm kind of surprised to see that!
Also, you just made me realize that I *must* get back to Super Mario 3D Land at some point. I've barely played it, even though I've had a copy since day one :|
Better get on it before 3D world comes out! ;D
Shinobi is really great, easily as good as any other games in the series, really hard and performance-demanding. The best thing I can say about it is that sometimes it made me feel a bit like when I first played Revenge of Shinobi--no small feat!--and like Shinobi 3 (definitely one of my all-time favorites) it's a game I can just turn on and play at any time and have a blast. That 64 hours is split between a few complete plays (it's fairly long!), a great deal of time in the trial mode S-ranking all the levels, and then tackling all the street pass maps (I only recently managed to collect them all). It's not a game for everyone but it's extremely successful at what it does.
It gets a lot of flack for being "farmed out" to Gryptonite, but despite being a "for hire" company that generally made portable versions of AAA titles and movie tie-ins, if you actually check out their games they had some serious 2D chops and Shinobi was kind of the apex of that team's work, they put together a demo and approached Sega about doing it, not the other way around. Sadly the game got zero marketing (Sega's PR dept consistently picked the worst screen shots to show it off) and poor distribution, and Gryptonite got bought up by the mobile company GLU, causing that team to be split up and several members left the company entirely because GLU was certainly not going to have them make another game like that again. If you've seen Volgarr the Viking you've seen what some of those ex-Shinobi guys have been up to since. :)
Well, I'm unlikely to get 3D World--or a Wii U--until Christmas at the earliest, Michael, so I still have some time.
As for Shinobi: I'm embarrassed to say I know little about this version. I feel like I've heard others say good things about it, though, so maybe I'll check it out someday.
My top five are:
1) Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 647 hours
2) Pokemon White 2 - 77 hours
3) Pokemon White - 68 hours
4) Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - 62 hours
5) Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - 29 hours
My Monster Hunter game is actually at the 156-hour mark, but that playtime is divided between the 3DS and Wii U versions.
Yep, but now you know a bit more! :)
By the way, I picked up a Wii U myself last weekend! I had found an inexpensive used Pikmin 3 on Glyde and when that arrived I figured I'd better have a system that I could test it on in case there was a problem. I haven't decided yet if I'll pick up 3D World when it comes out or if it'll be a Christmas request. :)
I don't even have to look at my screen. Mario Kart and Fire Emblem are going to be at the top by a long mile. LOL
Mine is:
1. Animal Crossing CLOCK: 107:44 (what can I say, it does a good job waking me up haha)
2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf 83:10
3. Etrian Odyssey IV 36:07
4. Fire Emblem Awakening 29:45
and oddly enough...
5. Nintendo E-Shop 22:39
That's a long time spent browsing what to buy hahaha.
That's awesome, Michael! I desperately want to play Pikmin 3 myself. Gah, Christmas is too far away! And then of course there's the fact that I may not actually get one for Christmas. Well, in such a case, I'll just have to buy one for myself, I guess :)
Wow! That's a good bit of time with New Leaf, Terry. Why does that not surprise me? :)
Also, interesting that you have three DS games in your top five!
Also, I'm hoping to finally get the 3DS version of MH3U for my birthday (just a few weeks away). Yippee!!
Well, that certainly makes sense to me, Chalgyr, as both are really great games. I should've spent more time with Fire Emblem myself so far. Maybe I'll finally get back to it around Thanksgiving...
Ha ha! I love your first one, Kensloth. Also, do you often fall asleep while browsing the eShop or something??
A lot of the Animal Crossing hours are just my game idling with the gate open to allow visitors, but it adds up. lol
Oh, suuuuurrre, Terry! ;)
Very cool, I know I wasn't the only one looking forward to Pikmin 3 but I'm glad to know you want to play it too. :) Not that you need convincing, but I've really been liking it. I loved the first two games but I wasn't sure if they'd hit another winner with me or not, but it sure sucked me in after all. Did you play the Gamecube ones?
1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (72 hrs even)
2. Pokemon X (37 hrs 58min)
3. Mario Kart 7 (20 hrs 17 min)
4. Street Pass Mii Plaza (19 hrs 24 min--I'm shocked this one isn't first. I spend so much time playing these games...)
5. Professor Layton and the Last Specter (19 hrs 9 min)
6. Nintendo eShop (18 hrs. 14. min)
AND tied for 6th
6. Ocarina of Time 3D (18 hrs. 14 min)
I'm honestly surprised by my results. I figured...something besides Pokemon X would take the 2nd slot...but I haven't really been playing much on my 3DS I guess.
Interesting results, Justin. You seem to have a playtime "cap" like I do--around 20 hours (for you) and 30 hours (for me).
Also, which Mii Plaza games are you playing? The standard ones, or the new ones that were released recently?
I must, because I surely don't remember spending THAT much time in there! I guess it adds up though.
I was just kidding--kind of ;)
I own the first one and have played it a bit, but not enough, Michael. I ... may own the second one, too? I honestly can't remember :|
Oh no! Another one in the un-opened queue? ;D
That really does look awesome, nice find! I just kind of really love the voice that says `shampoo` for some reason.

2 hours and 30 minutes of that Animal Crossing: New Leaf time is from today. I was doing the lazy camper exploit with island bugs and sharks to make money and that took a while because the exploit involves one of the games lazy campers play and I had to get him to want to play that game for every bug and shark I wanted to sell. I got 18 full bags of bells doing that. Turnips were also selling for 392 bells on Tuesday. I ended up making 2,000,000 + bells this week funnily enough on the week I decide to dress my mayor as an important business man.

I'm trying to make a comment but it's not showing up.
Well as you know, I do enjoy exposing myself whenever possible, so here you go:
#1 SMTIV 23:37
#2 Steamworld Dig 17:47
#3 Soul Hackers 16:03
#4 Minis on the Move 12:19
I really wasn't expecting to get into Steamworld Dig as much as I did, but it's seriously addictive. I only just picked it up cuz it was on sale a few weeks ago. I think I'm stuck at the final boss now. And in case you're wondering, I haven't finished any of the other games either.

Since Disqus is being a pain I'm going type my list all over again. the 1st number is my play time and the 2nd is the amount of times I booted up
#1 Animal Crossing: New Leaf 687:55 660
#2 Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate 226:15 321
#3 Pokémon Y 137:39 145
#4 Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance 117:10 116

#10 Pokémon: White Version Two 47:07 88
I'm trying to post my list bit Disqus is being a total pain in the ass so I'll put in different post. If you see a list unrelated to whatever you're talking about, blame Disqus.
I'm going to try something different. My first most played game is Animal Crossing New Leaf which I've played 660 times with a play time of 687 hours and 55 minutes. My second most played title is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for 226 hours & 15 minutes spanning 321 play sessions. As for my third its Pokemon Y which I've started 145 times and played for 137 hours and 39 minutes. The fourth game is Kingdom Hearts 3 D and that been played for 177 hours and 10 minutes across 116 parts. In 5th place is Etrain Odyssey IV featuring a time of 110 hours and 51 minutes taking it 127 time to reach that point. Followed by that is Mario Kart 7 sporting a play time of 105 hours and I have started it's engine 171 times. Kid Icarus Uprising soars into the 7th spot with 287 sessions taking a total of 96 hours and 23 minutes. For the 8th game I was able to arrange 53 hours and 3 minutes of play time in 96 sittings. At number 9 we have Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 with 47 hours and 10 minutes spread across 86 play sessions. And finally at number 10 I have Pokemon White Version 2 at 47 hours and 7 minutes across 88 sessions. Sorry I had turn my simple list into a novel.
Haha, I love that you use your Animal Crossing clock so much!
Ha ha! Yes, I like that, too, Sean :)
Oh, there are more than I'd ever admit, Michael. It's shameful, really :|
I didn't even know those apps could be all that useful. I mean, you have to leave your machine on all night, right? Or do they somehow power up/turn on the system when the alarm goes off?
This one did, Sam! I wonder what's up? I will say I've been getting a LOT of SPAM comments over the last few days. Blogger/Disqus are catching nearly all of them, but still...
I'm surprised your playtimes are as 'short' as they are, Steve! That said, you've played a ton of SMT IV, so I'll let it slide ;)
They're showing up now, Sam. Sorry for the problems!
Wow, you've really racked up the play time, Sam! Good for you :) And thanks for sharing -- I don't mind novels at all!
I know, it's especially weird because the 3DS is my most-used console right now. Ever since I started tumblr, most of my game time has been emulation on my PC. But also be aware that I only gave you the top 4, and I've clocked 164 hours so far this year. I realize that still pales in comparison to your Animal Crossing play time.
Yeah, I wound up dusting FE off fairly recently to give it a 2nd playthrough. Just as awesome the 2nd time, even if the story was known to me in advance.
That's always good to hear. I really enjoyed what I played of it earlier this year, but sadly something else took my attention away from it. Not sure what it was--Animal Crossing maybe? Regardless, I'll get back to it...
Oh, I understand spending time using a PC (or other system) for emulation. I play a ton of emulated games myself. Anyway, you don't need to explain--I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. I was just a little surprised, that's all. (Also, I don't think anyone should try to compete with my New Leaf play time--even though I know a lot of people have played it even more than I have!)
Both. I think most of my play time is the old stuff, but that's mostly because I've had a 3DS since day one. I'm guessing in another year my Mii Plaza time will double because of the other games. I friggin love them.
I really have to get the new ones. No idea why I haven't so far. Maybe I'll buy them and Attack of the Friday Monsters after my birthday...
My list for overall times:
- Letter Box/Swapnote 434:47
- StreetPass Mii Plaza 110:32
- Fire Emblem Awakening 109:59
- Tales of the Abyss 88:17
- SMT: Strange Journey 74:09
- Pokemon X 73:54
- Mario & Luigi Dream Team 71:03
- Radiant Historia 54:40
- Dragon Quest IX 48:24
- Ocarina of Time 36:41
(I skipped the eshop and friend list)
434 hours with Swapnote, Igor? That's ... amazing. And kind of insane. And Mii Plaza is next? Wow! Love to see that you've spent so much time w/ FE and SMT :)
This is lifetime total, so basically from when 3ds first came out and when swapnote first came out
Well, yes, I assumed so. What else would it be??
Just making sure :p
You didn't exactly say for the lifetime of 3DS or just this year ;)
Does the 3DS even allow you to narrow it down by year?
Yes. Select Daily Records, then tap the calendar looking icon in the top centre (looks like a grid) - keep tapping until the button on the right says This Year
Ah! Thanks for the info, Igor. I assumed all you could check out are lifetime results/records.
