What would King Boo, Birdo and all sorts of other Nintendo characters--yes, including Mario, Luigi, Link, Peach and Zelda--look like in the buff?
Brooklyn-based artist Aedan Roberts answers that question in a most amusing way via his recent "Nüdtendo" portrait series--two pieces of which can be seen below.
Here, for instance, is King Boo--and, er, his "bits":
Unsurprisingly--given the above, at least--Birdo's bits also are on display in Roberts' humorous portrait of the much-loved Super Mario Bros. 2 baddie.
To see the rest of Roberts' Nüdtendo series--my current favorites are Wario, Tingle, Peach and Link--check out his site, aedanroberts.com.
If you're interested in either of the pieces shown above, by the way, the King Boo one can be bought here (for $275), while the Birdo one can be bought here for the same price. (A few others also are for sale via Roberts' etsy shop.)

Yes! That's part of the reason I love that particular portrait, Terry. And Wario's, too. And then there's Link's portrait, where he looks positively mortified :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm conflicted about Birdo. Birdo is shown with breasts in this picture, but I can't tell if that's a penis or a vagina with labial folds being depicted. Birdo, after all, is transgender.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling Birdo's supposed to have a penis in this portrait, Adam, but I may be wrong. I'm only saying that because Aedan has depicted all of the other male "bits" in similar fashion.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I thought the extent of Birdo's transition was up for debate? I mean, yes, Birdo's transgender, and began life as a boy, but has she fully transitioned yet, or not--or is he still somewhere in the middle? (I mean this kind of seriously, by the way.)
Maybe what we're seeing here is Aedan's depiction of Birdo still in transition?
Then you would see complaints about no voice acting in the game as it's apparently very difficult for people to read text in games nowadays :/
ReplyDelete(it irks me when people list "too much text/too much reading" as a complaint against a game)
I see what you're saying. I like this idea. Birdo is a strong, brave female in the video game world. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I mean, it may not be the actual answer, but I'd like to think it is (or close to it).
ReplyDeleteOh, I know you'd see/hear those complaints from some folks, but I wouldn't be joining in--no siree! I much prefer reading games than hearing bad or even just average voice acting, to be completely honest.
ReplyDeleteCrimson Shroud is an example. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, yet one of its major "negatives" is no voice acting "oh woe is me! I have to read text!"
ReplyDeleteWhile the lower bits are a bit vague it is indeed a cock. I was very much aware of Birdo's history and was extremely excited to show it in my series- yet I also didn't want any big, pendulous dongs in any of the work. Nudity without overt sexuality was the goal.
ReplyDeleteHey there, Aedan! Thanks for responding! I can understand not wanting "big, pendulous dongs" in these portraits, by the way. I mean, I'm sure such a juxtaposition would be shocking and even kind of hilariously interesting, I much prefer the style you ended up using.
ReplyDeleteThank you for replying. I really appreciate your input (as the artist and all! :] )
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, I completely forgot that Crimson Shroud was voice-over-free. I've only played a few short hours of that one, but the lack of voice acting didn't bother me a bit. Of course, I'm already on the record for not minding that, and I realize I'm likely in the minority these days when it comes to such things.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say I'm thoroughly enjoying the Bravely Default demo :D
ReplyDeleteI love the Difficulty option screen!!
Oh, that's really nice to hear, Igor--and see, too! Really can't wait to get my own hands on this game...
ReplyDeleteI really like the art style :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah. It's like the art style used in Four Heroes of Light, but better :)
ReplyDeleteJust finished the demo :)
ReplyDeleteUnlocked all bonuses! Woohoo!
