I say that because the pair of games seen in the following photo found their way into my mailbox over the weekend--and we all know I need more games like I need another migraine.
Just in case any of your eyes are as terrible as mine are, the games in question are Etrian Odyssey IV for the 3DS and the first Touch Detective for the DS.
You may notice they're both still wrapped in plastic. That's because I know I'm not going to be able to play them for a while (thanks to EarthBound and Fire Emblem: Awakening).
I bought Touch Detective a few weeks back, by the way, in order to make the wait for my copy of the 3DS-based puzzler Osawari Tantei Nameko Daihanshoku (aka Touch Detective: Funghi's Big Breed) more bearable.
Little did I know it would make its way to my doorstep yesterday. (I assumed it wouldn't arrive until later in the month.)
You probably can't tell by looking at the photo above, but I actually opened Osawari Tantei Nameko Daihanshoku--mainly so I could check out its manual and see if it came with the adorable set of stickers I'd seen elsewhere.
Unfortunately, although the stickers are present, I'm not sure I can say the same for the manual. Sure, there's a piece of folded paper in there that explains the basics of the game, it's pretty disappointing when compared with the beauties that used to qualify as "instruction manuals."
Oh, well, I'm still happy I bought Osawari Tantei Nameko Daihanshoku and I'm very much looking forward to sinking my teeth into it soon.
I'm thinking hugging AND hitting might be bad ideas. Sexual harassment versus battery? Hm. Maybe a thank-you card? :-P
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to hear what you think of EOIV.
That's shocking that the Japanese release doesn't have a manual, I thought they were still doing the lavish full-color stuff over there (and those cool details with the backside of the cover showing through the holes in the case!) while over here we ended up with the 2-page inserts or suggestions that we go online and download a pdf.
ReplyDeleteIn the case of Shinobi on 3DS, the link to the PDF didn't even work! >:(
I actually think our mailman would put up with both, Justin. At the very least, I'm sure he could take a punch--he's a weathered old dude. Walks around in shorts all year long and also always has a pipe stuck to his lip.
ReplyDeleteAs for EOIV: I'm excited about it, too :) It'll be my next game after EarthBound and Fire Emblem, I think...
I think full-sized manuals are going the way of the Dodo in Japan, too, Michael. Sadly.
ReplyDeleteAnd you just reminded me that this game's case doesn't have adorable illustrations peeking through to the inside. Boo.
It does have stickers, though, so at least there's that :)
Oh, and I have a feeling this game does suggest you go on line and download a PDF or something like that. I just don't notice it because I don't know Japanese.
Aww! Pipe-smoking mailman?! That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteYep! I really like the guy, although I've rarely spoken to him. I also love that he wears shorts even in winter. Granted, our winters aren't as bad as yours are, but it still gets cold enough here that you shouldn't be wearing shorts!
ReplyDeleteI want to play Etrian Odyssey IV at some point. I love the idea of making your own maps for a game, which is something I used to do back in the NES days. I have a binder somewhere with the ones I made for Metroid and the first two Legend of Zelda games.
ReplyDeleteI still need to finish Fire Emblem, ZombiU, and Tomb Raider (not to mention next week's release of Monster Hunter).
The make-your-own-maps feature of the EO series is nice, although for me it's not really the main draw. (I just like old-school dungeon-crawlers.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, yes, you should give EO a try sometime soon--either by picking up EOIV or by picking up one of the DS games.
Sounds like you've got a backlog that's a lot like mine, BTW. Ack! :P
Haha, that Touch Detective one has an awesome cover! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a pretty good haul to me! But I don't envy the juggling you'll have to do to keep up with your backlog... but I'm in the same boat! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, will you share photos of the stickers that came with Nameko Daihanshoku? I'd love to see them!
Ahh so you really did it?
ReplyDeleteYou bought Touch Detective: Funghi's Big Breed huh?
I never considered buying one of these games but I ordered Osu! Tatakae! Quendan 2 yesterday and I'm really excited.
Please tell us your feelings about your new games and the gameplay as soon as you try them out :D
Hey Bryan, I have to thank you.
Your blogpost a few days ago (the one about the Gameboy Advance SP)
You mean the DS one, right? If so, I agree :) Now I just have to find time to play the game...
ReplyDeleteYeah, I really should stop buying games for a while, Anne. I can't help myself, though! The good news, at least, is that I'm nearly done with 3DS games for a while. I have Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon coming and then Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but after those arrive I'm going to take a bit of a break--unless Fantasy Life or Dragon Quest VII are released :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the stickers that came with Funghi's Big Breed: you bet! Actually I was planning to take a few more photos of the game's packaging, etc. and publish them tomorrow or on Friday!
Yep, I really went through with it! Actually, I pre-ordered it long ago, so I guess I went through with it long ago, too :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you bought Ouendan 2. I've never played either of the Ouendan games (just Elite Beat Agents). Anyway, I look forward to hearing what you think of it!
It's also great that you found a Kingdom Hearts SP! Will you post some photos of it on your blog or twitter eventually? I'd love to see it.
Too bad that it's missing the keychains and that the box isn't in perfect condition, but the system is what really matters, right?
If I had a blog I would defenetly post tons of photos. But twitter is not really the right platform to post more than one photo... :(
ReplyDeleteOh, duh, I forgot--I thought you had a blog :| You could post one photo of it on Twitter, though, couldn't you? :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. The Kingdom Hearts SP is one of the AGS 001 models so it has only front LEDs D:
ReplyDeleteDidn't knew that before! Is your SP a AGS 001 or 101 model?
Because the display light is soooo low! I heard that the 101 models have a way better display (because the light is behind the display) but you can't turn the light off (only reduce it). The display light of the 001 models is not as bright but you can turn it off.
Yes I could but ONE IS NOT ENOUGHHHHHH!!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, OK :)
ReplyDeleteOh, that's too bad. Still, it's not like it's unusable or anything, right?
ReplyDeleteMy SP is an 001 model, BTW. I've always wanted one of the 101 models, but I haven't been on the lookout for such a thing for a very long time.
No, I love this Kingdom Hearts SP but the displaylight-brightness was a bit disappointing. I expected something like the Micro display. :/
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to admit I hate all the 101 model colours (surf blue, pearl pink and tribal) Urgh.
Ah, yes, I don't care for the 101 model colors either :| I do believe that the NA Pikachu SP had a backlight, too, but buying one can be pretty pricey these days. Was the Pikachu SP released in Europe, BTW? I have no idea...
ReplyDeleteNo, the Pikachu Edition was never releaded here. The only special edition we got are the Mario Edition, the NES Edition, the Zelda Edition and the Kingdom Hearts Edition.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's too bad. Well, if you ever go looking for a Pikachu SP, look for the North American one, as I'm pretty sure that one has a backlight while the Japanese version may not...
