Well, that's a game I don't think anyone saw coming--other than those who know folks who are working on it, of course.
Regardless, it's a game I will welcome with open arms when it's released sometime this summer.
The question is: which version of Capcom-and-WayForward-developed DuckTales: Remastered (a trailer of which can be seen below) will I buy?
My initial reaction to this morning's announcement was to wait until I own a Wii U to pick it up, but now I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and purchase it on day one via XBLA instead. (Don't fret PS3 owners, it's also coming to PSN.)
Are any of you similarly excited about the prospect of playing a re-jiggered--with HD graphics, extra levels and more--update of Capcom's classic NES title, DuckTales?
Editor's note: as stoked as I am about this game's existence, a part of me wishes it were a sprite-based sequel à la Mega Man 9 and 10. Also, I really wish Capcom would bring it to the 3DS eShop as well.

Maybe you should check out Shovel Knight for a new sprite-based game that has some similar qualities. :)
I have to say I'm turned off for some reason by the 2D/3D hybrid here. I'm sure it's better when you're playing and you're more in the middle of things, and I've seen games that I felt pulled it off better, at least at a glance, but at a glance it looks oddly cheap to me. I really wish they'd gone full 2D and done some really lush backgrounds like WarioLand Shake, but the backgrounds they're showing here are really lacking in texture, especially considering what the original game looked like.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I knew next to nothing about Shovel Knight until you prompted me to look it up, Michael. It looks great! And it's coming to both Wii U and 3DS? Awesome!
As for DuckTales: I can understand your perspective here, as I don't consider this the perfect way to handle the game either. That said, I think it looks better than I would've expected from Capcom in this day and age.
Personally, I'd much prefer either a straight-up VC release of the original NES game or, like I said earlier, a Mega Man 9-esque sprite-based sequel, but I'll take what I'm given, as sad as it may seem :)
I am glad to have mentioned it then! Will it be the topic of tomorrow's update, I wonder? ;)
How is the existing DuckTales sequel on the NES? Considering how well-loved the first game is I'm surprised people don't talk about it more.
Hmmm, I wasn't planning on publishing a post tomorrow, but that may not be a bad idea :)
As for DuckTales 2 for the NES: I'm not sure I've ever played. If I'm remembering correctly, it wasn't reviewed well--or at least not as well as the original.
I wonder if it wasn't made by a different team?
I'm definitely shocked by and stoked for this! I love the original dearly and I think Wayforward has the chops to do a worthy remastermake.
What was maybe most exciting to me about this announcement was, well, the excitement. The reaction this got among the people I follow on Twitter was amazing. It's nice to see people so sincerely excited about a classic game / colorful platformer. Kudos to Capcom of America for making this happen!
Part of the problem is that Duck Tales 2 was released in 1993 and it's quite expensive online these days.
I think I am the only person on the Internet who thinks this game looks terrible. Of course I was too old to appreciate the series when it was on TV, and therefore have never had any interest in playing the game. I actually tried the original game for a few minutes once and just thought it was terrible. And that godawful music in the trailer? Seriously, 90s nostalgia at its worst. Also, I have tried some of Capcom's other HD remakes (i.e. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Super Puzzle Fighter II) and they also looked so much worse than the originals. Maybe if they had the original Japanese developers working on these remakes they could do something interesting with them. But I guess if any of those people are left they just work on Dragon's Dogma and Resident Evil sequels now. Sorry to take a dump on the party, but as a grumpy old man, that's what I do best.
I peed a little when I saw the news. And that trailer is dynamite.
*sad trombone*
Hmm, so late in the NES' life, eh? Still, I don't remember ever playing it--or even caring to play it--when it was newly released, and I was quite a fan of the NES and the SNES back then. Maybe I'd already moved onto the SNES?
Anyway, do you have an opinion on DuckTales 2, 2D2Will? Does it compare at all to the original in your mind?
I think WayForward is as good a company as anyone to work on this game, Ryan--although I know plenty of folks think all of the company's games are all looks and no gameplay. I guess we'll see soon enough if that's the case here or if they come through.
Wait a second here, Steve--you've only played a few second of the original (NES version) of DuckTale and you THOUGHT IT WAS TERRIBLE? How on earth is that possible?
Now, yes, it can be a difficult game, but it's far easier than some of its colleagues from the same era. Other than that, though, I can't imagine what complaints you'd have about it. Surely it can't be the graphics or music. Did you not like the pogo-stick move or something?
I might have peed a little, too ;)
Never played it. Would like to. I enjoyed the first one and I'm looking forward to the remastered game. A quick look at ebay suggests that it'll be cheaper to buy the Famicom version of Duck Tales 2 over the NES.
Have you seen these vids? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN2zosN_Fxo
Ah I've seen the announcement before but I never really loved Tuck Tales the tv series) that much.
Hey Bryan! Have you heard of the new "Wii Mini"?
I've never seen such a bad replacement for a console.
The Wii Mini has no Memory-Card or NGC-controller slots.
It can't connect with the internet and has only 88 MB internal memory though has no SD-card slot.
It only has one USB-slot left.
This console is a top-loader just as the PS1 but feels waaaay cheaper.
And I really don't know why it's called "mini" because it's bigger than the normal Wii.
I guess it's ment to describe the accomplishment and the technical abilities because those are mini...

Today I held one of this... "things" in my hands when I was at an electronic-store and nearly fainted.
P.S. I found and added you on Flickr.
Uploaded some pictures of my games and stuff.
Maybe you want to take a look.

Alright I went and played it for a few minutes again just now, and I still think it's ugly and boring. Also the controls are terrible. I seem to run into this problem with almost all the "classic" licensed games. If I don't like or care about the license, then I don't get as much enjoyment out of the game as everybody else does. I don't watch Disney cartoons, so I don't get anything out of Capcom's Disney NES, SNES or Genesis games that people are always gushing over.
Ah, yes, I've seen plenty of cheap-ish copies of DuckTales 2 for Famicom on eBay. Never looked for the NES version as I'm not really interested in it. (I only saw copies of the Famicom version because I sometimes look for copies of the Famicom version of the first DuckTales.)
You think it's ... it's ... UGLY? Wow. I can't agree with that at all. I think this game's graphics are great. Not as good as Little Nemo, maybe, but still pretty darn good. Oh, well, you know what they say: to each his own!
Although I did watch this show when I was a kid, that's not why I'm interested in it. I'm interested because the NES version of the game is one of my all-time favorite NES games--no question.
Oh, and, yes, I've definitely heard of and seen the Wii mini. I have no idea why Nintendo made and released it. I guess they figure some misinformed people will buy it :|
Finally, I *did* notice that you've joined Flickr. Welcome! I'm going to further check out your photos tomorrow :)
Spam?
I never played the original game either.
But it's never to late to play some good NES games.
As for the Wii Mini:
I guess all I have to say is "Booooooo!".
Yes, that's all.
And I am surprised hos easy it is to upload photos on Flickr but I already reached the MB limit and now I have to wait till I can upload the rest D:
I didn't knew that and it made me angry the day I found out. :/
Hey, Fantasy Life will be released in Europe!

Sorry for post spamming :(
I was very excited to see this announcement and watch the trailer. I have a lot of Disney tunes on my iPod and the DuckTales theme is one of them. I never owned the NES original, but I rented it a few times and liked it a lot (especially the music).
I'll probably buy the PSN version, since I can install it on my machine and my parents' machine for the nieces and nephews to play.
I hope the NES version turns up on the 3DS Virtual Console, though.
Ah, you have to pay for a membership ($25 a year, I think) to be able to upload as many photos as you want.
Yeah, I saw that earlier. I guess we'll see! I certainly hope it's released everywhere sooner rather than later!
Actually, it's light green! I like it, too, by the way, although of course I won't be buying one :)
Hmmm, I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on the NES version, Anne. I personally love it, but I'm not sure how it will seem to someone who didn't grow up playing 8-bit games!
I hope that, too, Zaphod65. I have a feeling we're going to be left waiting, though, as I can see Capcom thinking that people might buy the NES version instead of the new one.
I read an interview after my post that the deal with Disney was only for the new game on consoles, and that we shouldn't it on portables or a Virtual Console release of the NES game. Bleh.
Anne, it has the best music. The Mooooooooon.
