I mean, I'd have to be pretty desperate to watch, a few times over and with bated breath no less, The Bit Block's video analysis of Animal Crossing 3DS' Japanese box art that can be viewed below, don't you think?
Although a few of Josh's comments tripped my trigger, if you know what I mean, the one that really revved my motor was the one that suggested this iteration of the Animal Crossing franchise may include more than one island to explore, à la the first release.
Sadly, it seems all of us schmucks outside of Japan won't be playing this game anytime soon, as Nintendo of America recently tweeted that it would hit the streets sometime during "the first half of 2013"--which of course means it likely won't do so until around June.
Are any of you also chomping at the bit to get your hands on the game that the Japanese will call Tobidase Dōbutsu no Mori (aka Animal Crossing: Jump Out)?
Don't feel bad. I watched that entire clip myself.
ReplyDeleteALPACAS! They have ALPACAS, Bryan!
For all the improvements Wild World made, the original Animal Crossing on Gamecube is my favorite because it's on a console (you would think City Folk would be my favorite then, but I can't shake the disappointment I feel playing it since it added almost nothing to WW).
ReplyDeleteThe original AC is so nostalgic to me, sharing a town with the rest of my family and getting up early to see what they did yesterday was totally unique in a game. With that said, I reallllly hope they make another console version some day and even if this was just a rerelease of WW I'd get it for the alpacas.
Yes, Drew, ALPACAS! And they're adorable, aren't they? God, how I love these games :)
ReplyDeleteHey there, Bruce! Oh, I hear about the GC version. Anyone who started with that version is likely to consider it their favorite -- in large part due to the fact that it was their first experience with this charming series, of course.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, though, I loved City Folk. Granted, I pretty much ignored Wild World, as I didn't like playing the game on such a small screen. I think this game will be better, though, especially once I get a 3DS XL.
That said, I agree with you that playing these games on the big screen (aka TV) is much preferable for me. The good news there, of course, is that AC is sure to show up on the Wii U eventually, too.
The question is: Will it just be a rehash of the 3DS iteration? I hope not, especially when you consider all Nintendo's designers and programmers could do with the new GamePad and Miiverse.
Bryan – Oh, am I excited! Those pink and blue alpacas... Too adorable!
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly I never played the GC version, but extra islands to explore sounds like a good thing to me :) I love how they analyzed every little detail of the box in this video... It's not every day that you get so many tidbits of the game that haven't been already revealed just from the box!
Now that I've already taken a step towards buying a Japanese 3DS LL when I tried to grab one of those Pikachu ones, I'm pretty convinced that I'll pick one up sooner or later. I do like the looks of the pink/white one, and I'd *really* like to have it by this holiday season so I could grab Animal Crossing and Bravely Default early, but part of me wants to hold out for a special edition 3DS LL, because I know one will come out that will make me regret my decision to buy a "normal" color. Silly, huh?
But just like you, I'm desperate for Animal Crossing! Maybe I'll cave and buy a 3DS LL before the end of the year >_<
Hey there, Anne!
ReplyDeleteYeah, those alpacas *are* adorable. Who would've thunk that I could be swayed by a couple of alpacas?!?
As for craving a Japanese 3DS LL: I understand completely! You sound like me, actually -- "Should I buy one as soon as I'm able (after Thanksgiving/my birthday), or should I wait until next year to see what other colors Nintendo releases?"
At this point, I'm fairly convinced I'll pick up the pink-and-white one, but then I have to decide: Japanese or North American (assuming the pink-and-white one comes to the US)? Normally, I'd go with the Japanese one, no question, but now I have to consider that if I buy the Japanese one, I won't be able to play Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, etc. on it.
Maybe in the end I'll just buy both. Of course, I also have to buy a Wii U later this year/early next, so there's that to consider, too.
Oh, why can't we all be independently wealthy???
(BTW, I'm glad to hear you'll be buying Bravely Default! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.)
I have to admit, Animal Crossing 3DS looks really good. I fell in love with the original GC game (or should I say the American original) but was a dissapointed a good bit with Wild World that I didn't care about picking up City Folk.
ReplyDeleteThere's not many games I think I would be good at desigining or coming up with ideas for, but I woudln't pass up an invitation to improve the series. I could of wrote a book by the time I got done with the first game and Wild World.
Hello Adam! Do you mind me asking what you didn't like about Wild World? Was it too much of the same for you, or did you not like playing on the small screen?
ReplyDeleteAs for having ideas as to how the Animal Crossing series could be improved: I agree! As much as I love this series, I often think Nintendo will never advance things as much as I'd like them to.
I mean, why can't they expand things to allow you to live in a town, if you wish, or our in the boonies, or in a city, etc? Also, wouldn't it be cool if you could live in an apartment or condo as opposed to a house? Or you could run a shop, if you wanted, as opposed to being mayor, etc?
The possibilities are endless, but the folks at Nintendo seem interested in moving forward at a glacial pace, unfortunately...
ALPACAS!!! Sorry...felt like I needed to be on that particular train.
ReplyDeleteThis is thrilling! All of it! Except...the release date. Boo hiss.
Yes, Justin, the release date SUCKS! I sooooo wanted to play this around Thanksgiving/Christmas. Oh, well... I guess we'll just have to busy ourselves with 3DS and Wii U games!
ReplyDeleteErr.. Just one remark. That ain't the Eiffel Tower. That is clearly the Tokyo Tower. How so? The Eiffel Tower has 2 "feet" standing on the ground, the TT, 4 (as shown in the boxart). Plus the Tokyo Tower actually is red, the Eiffel Tower, is not.
ReplyDeleteAnd since it's a Japanese box art, it also makes sense the Tokyo Tower is shown, instead of some French stuff.
So yeah. There you have it ;)
Thanks for the comment, Lightmanone! I thought it was strange that the tower in the box art was red -- personally, I just assumed the designers at Nintendo had added a bit of pizzazz to the Eiffel Tower. Anyway, it's nice to know that's not the case.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it will be left as the Tokyo Tower in the AU, EU and NA versions of the game or if they'll change it to the Eiffel Tower or something similar, depending on the region...
I've been looking forward to playing this on the 3DS XL. The GC version is still my favorite -- I turned one of the four houses into a Mario-themed NES arcade -- but Wide World and City Folk were good.
ReplyDeleteI'm buying this as a digital download. The game is great for short play sessions, so it's going to have a permanent spot on my machine.
Hey there, Terry! Yes, playing it on an XL will be great, don't you think? Now I just have to get one -- which means NOA has to bring that pink-white XL to the States pronto!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya about it being a bonus to be able to give this game a permanent spot on your machine. Still, I like my boxed/physical games, so that's what I'll be going with when this one is released.
Wild World was too similar and no NES games was a letdown
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can see having that opinion, Adam. I can tell you one thing, though: The days of NES games being included in Animal Crossing are long gone. I do wish Nintendo would at least let us find/buy consoles or arcade cabinets and put our Virtual Console purchases in them, though.
ReplyDeleteOMG I need this game so bad!
ReplyDeleteBut I live in Germany so I still have to wait for it for a looooooong time :(
I started playing this series with Wild Worl on DS and loved it from the first second on!
I also tried the NGC-Version but I have to say to identify the fossils was way to circuitous in my opinion.
City Folk is also a grate game and I'm still playing it although some years passed since I bought it.
Animal Crossing is one of the best game-series I've ever played and I'm looking forward to the release in Germany!
P.S. Sorry for my bad english :/
Yours Melody
Hey there, Melody! Thanks for the comment :)
ReplyDeleteYou know what's sad? It's been so long since I played the GC version of Animal Crossing that I can't remember how you identify fossils! I guess this means I have to play that version again. Maybe I'll even start later today (no kidding!).
Anyway, I hear you about loving this series and looking forward to the release of the 3DS version outside of Japan.
One last thing: Your English is great. You shouldn't feel uncomfortable about it at all!
