Welp, it seems I'll be buying a 3DS XL a bit sooner than I initially thought I would

That's because, as some of you likely have heard already, during its latest Nintendo Direct broadcast yesterday, Nintendo of Japan announced that it will release a "PINKxWHITE" 3DS LL (XL to us heathens in the west) in late September.

Will this precious-looking handheld also find its way onto store shelves in other regions in the coming weeks and months? Sadly, I have no idea, although I certainly hope that will be the case. Should it fail to appear in my neck of the woods (that would be North America), though, I'll probably go ahead and pick up a Japanese one, as I'd love to be able to play some of the games--like Dangerous Jii-san Jya--that haven't been or won't be brought to our shores.

The announcement of the pink-and-white 3DS LL wasn't the only nugget of news that caught my attention during yesterday's Nintendo Direct, by the way. Also piquing my interest: This bit of gameplay footage of the next Animal Crossing title, as well as the title's colorful Japanese box art that can seen below.

Similarly thrilling for yours truly were two eShop game reveals. The first was for Denpa Ningen RPG 2, the sequel to the Genius Sonority-developed title that I once described as being "part Teletubby, part Tingle, part Pikmin, part Mr. Driller and part Mii," while the second was for HarmoKnight, a Bit.Trip Runner-esque platformer from the folks behind the Pokémon series. (To see HarmoKnight, which will hit the Japanese eShop on Sept. 5, in action, check out this recent tinycartridge.com post.)

Finally, I have to admit that watching the latest footage of Tomodachi Collection 3DS, which was shown during the waning moments of the aforementioned Nintendo Direct broadcast, made me feel sad that those of us who live outside the Land of the Rising Sun likely will never get to experience its wackiness. Maybe this will be the game that finally gets me to start learning Japanese?

HarmoKnights! I can't WAIT!!!

And Tomodachi looked interesting. I'm not getting my hopes up for it, though. It looks far too niche to ever find passage to our land.

I can't wait either, Justin. It looks just like my kind of game :) Honestly, I'd buy a boxed/packaged version of it if it were available and if it had great box art (which you know it would). That said, I'll happily pick it up digitally instead :)

As for Tomodachi: I think a localized version could work in the US, esp. since it's apparently a bit Animal Crossing-esque, but I don't think Nintendo is going to bother with such a thing. Oh, well.

Harmo Knight made me think of Sound Shapes, but it looks way to rhythm-ey for my taste, I'd utterly suck at it.

But that new Girl's Mode game that comes witht he pink 3DS should be good. The first one on the DS (Style Savvy in the US I think?) was a great shop sim with a cute story. Really addicting. When I saw the trailer for the new one a couple of months ago I actually got interested in getting a 3DS for the first time.. 8)

Hey there, miruki! I'm surprised you don't yet have a 3DS. Why is that? Not enough games you're interested in yet? Or do you just have limited funds like I do?

Limited funds and there hasn't been too much to make me really want one - well, I'll probably wait until christmas and get one for the little one, since he's been dying to get one (he wants to play Kid Icarus & New Super Mario Bros.) and since I mostly play on handhelds in bed when he's long asleep already it would work out perfectly. :>

Oh, but I really want to play Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 3DS, but that's not gonna be out in the EU until next year anyway.

Ha! You're not the first to suggest such a plan, miruki. Someone on twitter mentioned the same thing to me the other day. Anyway, sounds like the perfect plan to me :)

Oh, yes, I desperately want to play that, too. Sadly, it won't be out in either of our regions until sometime next year. Oh, well, it's not like we don't have other games to play in the meantime, right?

Yeaaaah... I've got a backlog of more than 50 games and there are at least 4 more games I desperately want to play getting released this year.. I'll surely be busy enough until Fire Emblem gets released over here. *g*

Ha! I hear you, miruki. Still, I'm itching for Fire Emblem's release :)
