... than with a new issue of PC Engine Gamer magazine.
OK, so I can think of a few things that would kick off the week in a better way than this, but this is pretty good one all the same.
I say that in part because this issue of PC Engine Gamer contains write-ups of two of the cutest PC Engine games around: Be Ball and Star Parodier.
(Silly aside: I'm sure a few hardcore PC Engine fans will want to smack me for saying this, but I actually prefer Be Ball to Star Parodier by a pretty wide margin. I guess I just have a soft spot for chibi Chun-Li-esque protagonists who can't keep their hands off of giant balls.)
That isn't all the seventh issue of PC Engine Gamer has to offer, of course. It also features a fascinating interview with Hudson Soft's Tadayuki Kawada (who worked on the aforementioned Star Parodier) and a surprisingly lengthy Legendary Axe comic.
Anyway, I'd highly recommend checking it out here at your earliest convenience--whether or not you consider yourself to be a PC Engine fan. The articles in this little ezine are witty, well-written and, if you're anything like me, sure to put a smile on your face.

I love that mag as well, I always print it out and bind it together for the full magazine experience :) I've even got their site in my links, and not just anybody gets there! :P
Really, Simon? That's awesome!
I'm always so happy when I see that another issue has been "published." The writing especially kills me :)
Have you checked out the single issue of the ZX Spectrum sister mag that was produced? I very much liked that one, too -- and I've never even played a Speccy game!
Star Parodier looks really fun! Thanks for reminding me this magazine exists; I do tend to forget about it. BTW, I think they could've left out the 50 pages of Legendary Axe fanfiction in the middle tho. ;>
warp: Star Parodier *is* fun! A bit too easy for me, and kind of mindless, too, but still a nice game. (I much prefer a number of other PCE shmups to it, though -- FYI.)
As for the Legendary Axe comic: Yeah, it's not really my kind of thing either. I don't think it took the place of anything else, though, so at least there's that :P
I looked up a video of Be Ball in action, and now I want to play it! It's rare that a puzzle game like that lets you move things around corners and through tight spaces like that. Usually if you pus something against a wall or into a corner, that's it. This looks different enough to be way fun!
Hey there, Justin! Be Ball *is* fun. Just be warned that it's also pretty repetitive. Like the reviewer in this mag said, it's best to take Be Ball in short-ish bursts. Play a few levels here and a few levels there. Don't try to play through the whole thing in one sitting, or you'll play it once and never come back to it.
All that said, I do like how the game tries to do something different. Also, the characters/enemies are completely charming, which is always a plus for me :)
That does look like a cool magazine, I love the cover.
I have a copy of Be Ball but I`ve never gotten around to playing it. I will have to give it a try.
Hi Sean! Yes, give it a try sometime. It's certainly a cute and unique game. Just don't go into it expecting anything mind-blowing. Look for it to give you a bit of simplistic fun :)
