I don't know about you, but I've been thinking of the next Animal Crossing game ever since Nintendo of Japan's Satoru Iwata mentioned it during the company's recent Nintendo Direct broadcast.
Sadly, it seems I'll be thinking of it for some time yet, as this 3DS game--which will be called Tobidase Doubutsu no Mori in Japan, with "tobidase" apparently meaning "leap out" or "jump out"--won't be released until sometime this autumn.
In the meantime, I'll satisfy my Animal Crossing craving by keeping a watchful eye on Time Cowboy!, the tumblog maintained by Melbourne, Australia-based illustrator, Jake Lawrence.
That's because Time Cowboy! regularly includes on-point, four-panel comics (like the one above) that are inspired by Nintendo's blockbuster social sim.
I'm also quite partial to this one, which casts a rueful eye toward what Lawrence calls "the disappointments of the sea."

Adorable. And...pretty much exactly how my experience goes.
Did you hear about New SMB 2?! Supposedly an August release on that, too.
Me, too, Justin. I spend an inordinate amount of time fishing while playing Animal Crossing games. Not sure why. I guess it calms me?
As for NSMB2: Yes, of course! And I'm definitely going to be getting that sucker on day one. I love that it looks more like the Wii version than the DS version. Can't wait to see more vids of it at E3, etc.
Er, I actually thought I published the fishing comic, not the "butts on flags" comic, Justin. Whoops! Keep that in mind if my previous comment doesn't make any sense :)
I remember EGM giving out some how-to flag templates. I had a really sweet Megaman flag for awhile.
Oh, that's cool, Adam! I've never bothered much with the game's flags myself. Most of my creative time is spent working up t-shirt designs :)
Oh, I love Time Cowboy! You can find him on Twitter at @thetimecowboy if you're interested. He's very friendly and shares lots of fun doodles (Just today he drew a picture of Swadloon for me! Yay!).
I definitely have to agree - the "disappointments of the sea" one is one of my favorite Animal Crossing pieces he's done!
Ah, I didn't know you already knew about him, Anne -- although it doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm going to have to go check out that Swadloon doodle now, of course :)
