I'd been thinking about picking up Pilotwings Resort for some time, mainly because I have fond memories of the SNES original, but I held off on doing so until I came across the above-mentioned sale because quite a few people have told me that the game is a bit thin when it comes to content.
Don't worry, I paid more than $0.00. |
Unfortunately, I've been spending so much time with my PSP and with Rhythm Heaven Fever as of late that I've yet to remove Pilotwings Resort from its shrink wrap, let alone play it.
As soon as I do either of those things, I'll let you know what I think of this launch-window release. In the meantime, have any of you played it? If so, what did you think of it? Was it worth whatever you paid for it, or do you wish you would have saved your money for another purchase?

I own it and love it. I spent a lot of time playing it when the 3DS came out. I would also recommend the launch game Steel Diver.
Oh, that's good to hear, Zack. Thanks for telling me :) Honestly, I've read a lot of "meh" reviews of this one, so I bought it not expecting much. Still, I couldn't ignore it at just $4.99! Anyway, I'll let you know what I think of it after I finally get around to playing it...
Had it, but sold it. It's fun, but you can only do so much with it. I've definitely moved on to the heavier hitters on the 3DS.
I paid full price, and I thought it was worth it. It's a fun way to showcase the system's prowess. Good stuff all around.
Ah, you sound like a lot of people who have experienced this game, Kevin! Lots of people have told me that it's very thin on overall content, which is disappointing.
Really, I picked it up because it was $4.99. How can you go wrong with such a price -- especially when you can get a bunch of Club Nintendo points out of it, too?
Well, that's good to hear, too, Justin! You're honestly the first person who has told me that they paid full price for the game and felt it was worth it. Anyway, I'm looking forward to giving it a go soon :)
I didn't have any money back when this sale first ran, so I got excited that they were running it again when you posted this. Oh well, lol, it's not exactly a game I want to buy for the full price, but I wouldn't be able to pass it up for five bucks either, plus, like you said, Club Nintendo points!
Oh, sorry for making you think the sale was on again, chaosyoshimage! I'm guessing it'll go on sale again at some point, though, since it hardly seems to be flying off the shelves anymore.
As for the Club Nintendo points I'll get from this: Hell, yeah! Actually, there are a number of seemingly disappointing games I'd buy for $4.99 if it would get me some CN points :)
It certainly isn't worth full price for the amount of content it has, but even at half-price, Pilotwings Resort is a worthy addition to any 3DS owner's library.
Thanks, Phillip! Good to hear that, especially when you consider that I bought it for ... about an 1/8 of the asking price, I believe?
I'm honestly shocked Nintendo never used it as a pack-in, BTW. Can you imagine a bundle that includes a nice sky-blue 3DS and a copy of this game?
In a mad 3DS Launch Day euphoria, I bought this game, SSF IV, and two other games I'm ashamed to name, all essentially at full price. I recently re-discovered Pilotwings, after spending many fun hours with it in the spring and early summer of 2011.
Yeah, I think it was worth full price. It may not be a stone-cold classic, but it's by turns challenging, relaxing, addictive, and infuriating (in a good way). I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it muchly, Bryan, and for $4.99? The deal of the year!!!
Thanks for sharing your story, DavidR -- and for sharing your thoughts on the game, too. I love it when a game receives such mixed reviews, as this one has. For some reason, that usually piques my interest more than a game that everyone just loooooooves. Anyway, I'll definitely be letting you and everyone else know what I think of this one after I finally get around to playing it :)
