More specifically, it's caused me to change my opinion of Kid Icarus: Uprising--which will hit store shelves in Japan tomorrow and throughout North America and Europe on Friday--from "no thanks" to "just take my money already, Nintendo."
If you have no idea who or what a Tempura Wizard is, check out the recent-ish Kid Icarus: Uprising trailer below. (The battered baddie first shows his craggy face at the 1:38 mark.)
Anyway, thanks to the rather surprising and hilarious inclusion of Mr. Tempura Wizard--as well as the positive word of mouth that's slowly making the rounds (here's a good example)--I'm now seriously considering picking up a copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Are any of you thinking of doing the same in the coming days, weeks or months--either because of or in spite of the inclusion of the aforementioned Tempura Wizard?
Buy: Kid Icarus: Uprising
I already have it pre-ordered at Best Buy. I don't know about the Tempura Wizard, though. One hit kills (which is what that video looks like at that part when the wizard gobbles Pit up) do not gel well with me.
ReplyDeleteAh, I should have known you'd have pre-ordered this game, SuperPhillip :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, BTW, that one-hit kills suck. Hopefully that's not the case with the Tempura Wizard, although like you said that's what the trailer implies.
I guess we'll find out soon enough!
For a moment I thought you meant you weren't going to get the game cos of the Tempura Wizard LOL and I was ready to tell you off :p hehehehe
ReplyDeleteI've put down my preorder. But alas game is due 29th (yay for Australia being late in the game again!)
I have been reading and watching various videos and that's what enticed me to finally plonk down a preorder :)
Just the different parts of the game look really good, though the game has already sold me on the sound side! The music is just fantastic and I hope the soundtrack becomes available in all club ninty shops (not just japan's!). I also like the idea of how the story is told through the banter between Pit and Palutina instead of the stock standard cutscenes (tho the game does have a couple of them).
Will be interesting to hear what you think once you get the game Bryan :)
Hey there, Igor! Oh, no, I wouldn't do that (say I'm not going to get the game because of the Tempura Wizard). Honestly, I can't imagine someone being disappointed by the character, although I'm sure some are.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it certainly looks like a game that's full to the brim of content, doesn't it? That's really why I'm interested in it, BTW. The Tempura Wizard just pushed me over the edge :)
I'll certainly let you and everyone else who comes here know what I think of the game after I get it, Igor. You do the same, OK?
Yes sir *salute* :p
ReplyDeleteHa! No need to call me 'sir' or to salute, Igor :P
ReplyDelete"Get ready for a display of raw angel power!"
ReplyDeleteWell, I admit I've never been interested in Kid Icarus... Honestly, I don't really like many action-oriented games, they have to have an art style or story that really draws me to them. But the trailer looks fun, and I agree that the banter is pretty silly. I like it. Even so, I don't really think it's my kind of thing, so I probably won't be buying it.
I do look forward to hearing what you think! Wouldn't a more appropriate name have been "Eggplant Wizard," though?
Anne: The first (purple) wizard they show in the trailer is the Eggplant Wizard. The *second* one (with a piece of battered shrimp for a head) they show is the Tempura Wizard :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I completely understand not finding this game interesting. I didn't really like the looks of it myself, at first. Actually, that's not completely true: I've always liked the art style, but I haven't always liked the gameplay.
To be honest, I'm still not sure I'll like the gameplay. Various folks on the Interwebs have assured me that the game is fun, though, so I'm hopeful I'll like it in the end.
Anyway, you know I'll let you know what I think of it ... assuming I go through with picking it up, of course :)
I'm super excited for Kid Icarus myself. It looks distinctly un-Nintendo like and I'd buy it just to encourage Nintendo to make games that look and feel so unlike their other stuff. There's banter and item junk! That's like... the opposite of Nintendo!
ReplyDeleteRobb's buying it, because he's a HUGE fan of the original. But after seeing that trailer, I want to get it. How hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'd read about how surprisingly funny the game was, but every trailer I'd seen was the "tough, sprightly" and, honestly, slightly obnoxious Pit. The self-deprecating Pit is amazing.
I was going to give the game a pass, but I'm thinking I'll visit Best Buy today to pre-order (BB Canada has a $10 rewards bonus, and a bonus pack of AR cards - and I love gimmicks like that!).
ReplyDeleteI finally gave in after reading a couple positive reviews this week, and seeing Tempura Wizard positively seals the deal for me. While I'm still concerned that the control scheme will cripple me, this game looks jam-packed with quirky fun!
It's about time they made another Kid Icarus game.
ReplyDeleteAlois: I'm so glad to hear someone else is excited about this game, too! I'm especially interested in all of the weapons and items myself. And all of the options and configurations that are possible. Sounds very cool to me.
ReplyDeleteJustin: How did I now know Robb is a huge fan of the original Kid Icarus? This makes me like him even more!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I, too, like self-deprecating Pit. The witty banter definitely seems as though it's going to be worthwhile. Fingers crossed it's actually enjoyable and not annoying while playing the final product.
DavidR: If I saw a deal here in Seattle (or online) that would give me $10 off the price of the game and a free pack of AR cards, I'd jump on board, too!
ReplyDeleteBTW, you're not alone in being worried about the controls. I can't help but think my hands are going to cramp mightily while playing this game. Here's hoping both of our fears fail to come true...
Anonymous: I'm with you! Although, honestly, I wish they had made another sequel long ago -- such as during the days of the SNES or Super Famicom. Oh, well, I'll take what I can get at the moment :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I've heard plenty of reviews that say it's surprisingly NOT annoying, so...fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've read a lot of good reviews, too. Tiny Cartridge's JC wrote a really positive review of the game for Joystiq yesterday, which really resonated with me. Can't wait to see for myself if it's good!
