The Hyrulian Book of Biology

By the end of this week, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be available pretty much everywhere in the world. How many of you have picked it up already or are planning to do so in the next few days?

Those of you who are Zelda fans but have yet to buy Skyward Sword should do what I've been doing for the last few days--which is stare at artist Andrew Kolb's "The Hyrulian Book of Biology" and then contemplate all of the wonderful things (including more illustrations like the ones that appear on the imaginary book's cover, below) that could be contained within such a compendium.

Kolb created "The Hyrulian Book of Biology" for an awesome Zelda tribute blog called Fill Up Your Hearts! (or is it Well, Excuse Me Princess?), by the way. Check it out here if you're so inclined.

Buy: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

  1. Some really nice artwork there :)

I bought Skyward Sword and haven't played it. Dark Souls is taking all of my time. It's probably for the best because I can't play two epic games at once and one will inevitably end up getting neglected.

  2. My God. I was SO hoping it was a real book. I'd buy that up faster than anything!

The new Zelda has eaten my life...it's SO GOOD.

  3. Hey there, Retr0gamer! Yeah, the artwork on this cover is pretty awesome, isn't it? I understand holding off on Skyward Sword, by the way. You want to be able to devote your attention to it and only it, right? Anyway, can't wait to hear what you think of it!

  4. Justin: Yeah, it's a crying shame this isn't a real book. Can you imagine how cool it would be if Kolb did such a thing, and included a page or more for each being, etc., in the Zelda universe, perhaps with multiple angles/looks at each specimen? I'd buy it in a heartbeat, too.

As for Skyward Sword: I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it! I'm guessing I know how you'll be spending the upcoming weekend? :)

  5. I usually find I can only concentrate on playing one game at a time otherwise none of the games I play get much play time. This ca be seen in the disaster that is my backloggery list at the moment :) Anyway I know I'll love skyward sword when I do get around to it and making good progress on dark souls. However had a pang of regret when I saw an advert on TV for it today! Stop tempting me nintendo!

  6. I understand, Retr0gamer. I'm the same way! Anyway, at least you're enjoying Dark Souls in the meantime, right? Just think of Skyward Sword as the dessert you get to enjoy after feasting on Dark Souls :)

  7. Well, I'll be working all weekend...sadly...I had last weekend off and then bought Zelda and had to go back to work...boo hiss. But I'll be playing it whenever I get the chance, that's for sure.

  8. I'm more than enjoying Dark Souls. Game of the Year for me by far! Had to take a break from it I was playing it so much.

  9. Oh, that sucks, Justin :( You get Thanksgiving off at least, though, right?

Anyway, I look forward to hearing more about Skyward Sword. Sounds like you're having a blast already, though, which is great :)

  10. Wow! That's quite a comment to make, Retr0gamer (RE: Dark Souls being your GOTY).

Did you play Demon's Souls, BTW? If so, what did you think of it, esp. compared to Dark Souls? I really want to pick up one or both of them at some point...

  11. Demon's Souls was pretty much my favourite game of this generation so I was bound to love it. If you didn't get on with Demon's Souls then you won't like this one. I'd recommend getting both games. Dark Souls is definitely better. It's a game that keeps on giving, I thought I was getting near the end of the game and then discover 4 more huge locations I've still yet to explore, it's massive!

I just hope you have a lot of patience. The difficulty level of the two games was blown way out of proportion by the press but it is still tough and you really have to take your time through levels and always be on your gaurd or you'll get murdered.

  12. I'm not afraid of difficulty, Retr0gamer -- in fact, these days I tend to welcome/embrace it, since so many games are overly easy, IMO.

Anyway, at some point I'll definitely give one or both of these a try, as I'm definitely curious about the premise and the gameplay.
