Behold: My complete-in-box copy of Ice Climber

I'm sure it seems silly that I used the word "behold" in the headline above. Honestly, I couldn't help but use it, as I really like the art that appears on the box and cart covers of my latest acquisition: A "complete" copy of the Famicom version of Ice Climber.

You know what else I really like? This game! I know that's kind of a shocking admission--after all, I've said in the past that it was frustrating to the point of annoyance--but I've truly had a change of heart when it comes to this classic platformer. Now if I could just make it past the fifth stage...

Oh, and in case you're wondering: Yes, it's impossible for me to take a straight-on photo of a game. I try to do so every once in a while, but the resulting shot either bores or otherwise displeases me.

Anyway, if you'd like to see a few more photos of this particular copy of Ice Climber, check out my Flickr photostream at your earliest convenience. Also, check out a few previous blog posts--such as this one and this one--for more of my thoughts (both good and bad) on this chilly title.

  1. Very hawt stuff! I love this game especially when that freaky bear comes out to knock the screen up a bit and kill you if you are under the safe zone! Sexy box art indeed!

  2. Thanks, Famicom Freak! Yeah, the box art is great, IMO. You know what's funny? I don't think I've ever spent so long in a stage that the bear has shown himself. I think I'm going to have to go check on that now :)

  3. The gorgeous blue cartridge is worth every penny, methinks.

  4. I agree, Justin! The blue cart combined with the cute and colorful label are quite a sight, IMO :)

  6. Ha! OK, will do, Famicom Freak :) I didn't play the game tonight, but I'll do my best to do so tomorrow.

  7. That is a beauty! The cart and box are both really great looking, my copy of the game is quite a bit more worn out!

And I`m with you on the photography - Famicom carts taken at odd angles look way better than stragiht on shots!

  8. Hey there, Sean :) Yeah, I was a bit surprised to see that the box and cart were in such great shape. All that really matters, though, is that the game works, right?

Also, why am I not surprised that you agree with me RE: taking photos at odd angles? You are, after all, the king of taking photos of Famicom carts in strange and wonderful settings :)

  9. Those famicom carts are so beautiful. My heart honestly skips a little whenever I see one. A testament to their beauty, perhaps, or a damning insight into my relationship with games.

  10. Hey there, Jyr! Do you like the carts themselves the most, or the boxes? Or the whole package? Whatever your answer, I agree with you :) Also, it's definitely a testament to their beauty, in my opinion -- of course, I'm a bit biased.

  11. Oh the art too, but the carts themselves look like they've dropped from some divine gaming heights.

  12. Ha! Yes, Famicom carts are quite nice to look at, aren't they? And they're so tiny! Really, I love them :)
