That game: Magical Puzzle Popils, which I'm pretty sure I've mentioned on more than one occasion. (Yep, here and here.) I know, I could easily continue playing this Fukio Mitsuji-developed title via emulation if I really wanted to, but I'd prefer to own the real deal if at all possible.
There are a few other Game Gear titles I'm at least mildly interested in, of course--like Fantasy Zone Gear, Madou Monogatari I, II and III, and Shining Force Gaiden--but I likely wouldn't even consider picking up the system if Magical Puzzle Popils weren't available.
To make things even worse, I'd love to buy one of the rare, white Game Gears--like the one seen in the photo above--that only saw the light of day in Japan. Thankfully, even I have my (spending) limits. So, black it will be--should I ever buy one, of course.

Yes, that's true, Motherplayer. It doesn't has as many wow-worthy titles as any of Nintendo's portables, IMO, but enough to warrant purchasing the system at some point -- if I can find a cheap one.

Ah no, you're right. Game Gears are cool. Especially white ones. They're just so.. Ridiculous. I mean, they're effing huge and, all those batteries. Heh. Anyway, Play-Asia's selling a red Magic Knight Rayearth edition if that's any better. I always thought a red Coca Cola one would be cool, if one ever turns up for me.
Yes, that's very true. And that's OK if we're talking platformers or basic puzzlers, but some of them are RPGs, etc.
Oh, yeah, they're definitely ridiculous. Really, I should just keep playing the games via emulation. But I can't help but what the real deal! Thankfully, there are many gaming-related things I want, so a Game Gear likely is near the bottom of the list at this point.
As for red Game Gears -- I like them well enough, and the blue ones, too, but if I'm going to get one it'll either be a basic black one or a rare white one, I think.
Just get a 3DS. Game Gear games will be released sometime...but...no guarantees on that game. Who knows.
I don't think the game was released in the US, Justin -- just Japan and the UK. So, that likely means it won't be released on the NA eShop anytime soon.
As for getting a 3DS -- that's a sure thing regardless of whether or not I ever get a Game Gear. Really, as soon as NOA announces and releases the pink one, I'll get one!

You may want to look into picking up a refurbished Game Gear if you can, they all have shitty capacitors in them which are all dying these days. Then again it's not really a hard job to replace them if you have any tech savyness.
That IS good to know. I'll look forward to when they release it. I just bought the 3D Classics version of Twinbee. I'd never played it before.
Oh, I didn't know that, Brendan. Thanks for telling me! I certainly wouldn't want to drop a load of money on a white GG just to see it die. Of course, it was always more likely I would buy a regular ol' black one anyway. Still, it's doubtful I'm savvy enough to replace a capacitor myself, so I'll still keep your advice in mind if and when I go to buy even a black GG.
What do you think of Twinbee 3D, Justin? I've read a bit about it, but haven't gained any real insight into as a result. Is the 3D effect cool? Do you like the game overall?
I passed on the chance to get a Game Gear really cheap a few months ago. I think it was mainly all the batteries that it would suck up that turned me off.
If I had seen that white one though I might have had a second thought!
