What do you think of Wii U?

Now that we've had most of a day to soak in the details, what do all of you think about Nintendo's next console--officially known as Wii U--and its wacky controller?

Despite the fact that I'm still not sure how powerful the system is going to be or what games Nintendo's stable of designers and programmers are producing for it, I'm pretty darn excited about it.

If you weren't able to catch Nintendo's presser, go ahead and watch it here if you're at all interested in what the company is planning.

Or, read the (surprisingly positive) hands-on impressions that have been shared by the folks at EngadgetGamespotGizmodoIGN and Wired.

Sure, looks like a lot of fun alright, and very powerful for something so small.

But um, yeah, whatever, to me it's not something to get too excited about, it isn't groundbreaking. I'll start getting excited when I see some really good games on it.

How AMAZING would it be if the next generation of Pokemon used that? Imagine THAT leap! I suppose I'm just kidding myself, but one can dream.

I hear ya, Trxd. Still, I'm betting we'll hear about and see a bunch of cool games -- esp. from Nintendo themselves -- sooner rather than later. They aren't going to be able to sell the thing on tech alone; they're going to have to have a Wii Sports-like launch title (or two) as well.

As for Pokemon -- I'm sure *some* sort of Pokemon game will be made for the system. Maybe Pokemon Snap 2? That would be *awesome* in my opinion.

Also, the folks responsible for Fatal Frame have to make a game for this system. It would be perfect for it!

It definitely looks interesting. Just off the top of my head I can think of some ways this could change games, especially multiplayer ones if each person has a separate screen to look at. Will this be the only controller for the Wii U or will they have stuff similar to the Wii as well? I mean for those games that involve swinging and waving the thing around and wot-not.

Anyway, I agree with Trxd. Good games will make or break a console much more than design. Gotta give Nintendo credit for being innovative though.

Good set of articles about E3, BTW.

Hey there, Sean! Yeah, there are a lot of possibilities with this tech, I think. I'm sure the folks at Nintendo will show games that take advantage of it -- hopefully they'll show them soon.

As for controllers -- actually, the system is backwards-compatible with the Wii and will use the Wii Remote, Wiimote Plus, etc. So, games that need motion control will use those controllers, I guess!

Oh, and thanks for the compliment RE: the E3 posts. They've been fun :)

Everything Nintendo does gets me excited.

And I third the want for Pokemon Snap 2!

Ah, glad to hear others would like to see another Pokemon Snap! Really, I can't believe the folks at Nintendo have avoided it for this long. Thankfully, this system is *perfect* for such a game. Make it happen, Iwata or Miyamoto!

BTW, Trxd, I think you should start a petition for this one -- if one doesn't already exist, of course :)

I'd buy a Pokemon Snap sequel, for sure! Sign me up.

I'm guessing Pikmin 3 will be a launch title, considering it was already in development for the Wii before Miyamoto decided he wanted it on the Wii U. I'm bummed that Wii owners aren't going to get a new Pikmin...but I'd be kidding myself if I said I wasn't going to buy a Wii U.

I'd also be kidding myself if I said I wasn't making siren noises every time I said that name! Wii U Wii U Wii U!

Oh, yeah, Pikmin 3 has to be either a launch title or a near-launch title for Wii U, IMO.

Like you said, I'm said Wii owners won't get it, but it's going to look sooooo much better on the Wii U. Really, the 'regular' Wii version probably didn't look that much better than the GC games.

Also, I'm going to start making Wii U siren noises, too :)
