I really hope this means a Rhythm Heaven game is in the works for Wii U

The folks at Nintendo of America have been using a handful of demos to show off the capabilities and possibilities of their company's just-announced Wii U system to E3 2011 attendees.

One of these demos is called "Shield Pose" and, surprisingly enough, it seems quite Rhythm Heaven/Tengoku-esque to these eyes and ears.

I know Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime has said that these demos are not necessarily of in-the-works Wii U games, but I sure hope he's fibbing in the case of "Shield Pose."

By the way, videos of Nintendo's other Wii U demos can be viewed here.

  1. Oh, when I talked to my mom, she said she played this one! I think she was less impressed with it than she was another demo where four players run around in a maze with one person "it" with the Wii U controller (everyone else using Wiimotes). She said she was intrigued by how she could use the Wii U controller to see an alternative view of the maze, so as the "it" player she had an advantage over the other players trying to catch her.

This is the final mom-pimping I'm going to do: She said that she actually got a full hour in the VIP Nintendo room to play with the Wii U!!! Ok, I'm done, promise!

Regardless, I hope you're correct! There can never be enough Rhythm Heaven in the world. I wish I had a Wii... Now comes the ultimate decision of whether or not I'll just wait and purchase a Wii U in the future or buy a discounted Wii come this holiday season. I'm bummed the U doesn't support Gamecube anymore. Decisions!

  2. Oh, no need to stop your mom-pimping, Anne. Keep it up :P

I think all of the Wii U demos look pretty cool, to tell you the truth. I'm kind of hoping they're all bundled with the system or are made into some sort of Wii U Play (hmmm, that doesn't sound so hot) kind of release. I guess we'll see!

Anyway, it's cool that not only did you mom work on the Wii U in some capacity, but that she got to play with it for an hour in Nintendo's VIP room. Jealous!

As for your decision RE: cheap Wii or new Wii U -- that *is* a tough one, I have to admit. Do you have a GameCube already? That could help your decision. That said, the Wii is cheap and is only going to get cheaper the closer we get to the launch of the Wii U. Anyway, can't wait to hear what you decide to buy :)

  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought shield pose looked like an amazing game!

  4. Really, Justin, it has to be part of a bigger game, doesn't it -- like a new Rhythm Heaven! I know, the Wii version isn't even out yet. Still...
