After, oh, six or so attempts, I've finally defeated Pokémon Black's fourth gym leader--some hussy who calls herself Elesa.
Apparently I had been training the wrong Pokémon in the lead up to my battle with Elesa (below). That's what I get for ignoring the game's oh-so-ugly (in my opinion) ground and rock Pokémon, I guess.
Next up: The title's fifth gym leader. Oh, and more Pokémon hunting and training, of course. I'm especially looking forward to spending some quality time with my recently captured Vanillite and Whimsicott.

Hot damn she is such a hussy!
Could she spam volt switch anymore? I mean GEEZ.
Where the hell did you find a Vanillite? I STILL have yet to see one...although winter starts today for me. So...maybe now? I did catch all three legendaries last night...the last of which was WAY infuriating to catch. But...20 or 25 pokeballs of different varieties later...DONE! I don't particularly LIKE any of them...but I've got them now.
She *is* a hussy, rinns! And, yeah, her spamming of volt switch nearly drove me insane.
You should have heard the words that spewed forth from my mouth the first five or so times I played her. Good thing we don't have kids!
Welcome to the blog, by the way! And thanks for commenting :)
Justin: I got Vanillite in, er, the town surrounding Cold Storage. Uh, Driftveil City? There are patches of grass around the town/city and I caught one there. They're actually pretty cool as they level up, as they get some nice ice moves that are useful against the typical Pokemon in the area.
How many legendaries are in this game? Actually, I barely know what a legendary is. I'm such a bad Pokemon player.
One last thing: My copy of Pokemon SoulSilver arrived yesterday afternoon. I nearly started playing it right away, but then I realized that may be a bad idea (if it took me away from Black). So, I'll start it once I've finished Black, which could take some time...
Good idea. Although, I hear that you can transfer Pokemon you've caught in past games to this one after the credits roll. So...you know...that'll give you a reason to come back, too.
At my count, there are...a set of three, a set of two, and another set of three. So...eight? Maybe ten. I dunno. They're all "Legendary Pokemon", you know, like Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres. BTW (uno, dos, tres...clever!).
Oh, yes, I've heard that, too. Sounds very cool :)
That's a lot of Legendaries, by the way. I'm guessing they're larger and more powerful than your typical Pokemon? (Along with being hard to catch, obviously.)
I guess so. They don't seem all that much better...just more rare and harder to nab, for sure.
Ah, well, that's kind of disappointing. From what I've seen of them, though, they're probably not going to be my kind of Pokemon, if you get my drift, since they're not small and cute :)
Exactly. There's nothing cute about them. I mean...nothing. Have you kept Tepig from evolving?
Actually, Justin, I haven't allowed *any* of my Pokemon to evolve yet! Yeah, I'm crazy. Are you still playing the game?
You're hilarious. Heck yes I'm still playing it. I just made it to Black City, which baffles me...and currently I'm just capturing Pokemon I don't have and evolving ones I do have. The sports arenas at Nimbasa are great for leveling, since you can revisit them and fight the trainers there every day.
Wait, you're only now making it to Black City? I thought you already beat the Final Four or Fabulous Four or whatever they're called? Is that city not accessible until the post game?
I'm languishing between the fourth and fifth gyms at the moment. I could easily move on, but I'm trying to level some of my weaker Pokemans. Maybe I should go back to Nimbasa!
It's not. The three cities on the Eat side of the map are all inaccessible until you finish. And...how often does it ask if you want to evolve them? Like, if you say no once, does it never ask again?
Oh, I didn't know that about the three cities in the east. Strange!
As for how often the game asks me if I want to evolve my Pokemon: Every time they gain a level :( There is an item you can give them to not evolve, but I don't think I have one yet.
I have one. I've never used it. I just wondered because I caught a Pokemon that was many many levels above where it was supposed to evolve, so I wondered if 1 level would make it evolve...I guess I should try it out.
Yes, I would guess if the Pokemon you caught is above the level where it's supposed to evolve, it will try to evolve the next time it gains a level. If you don't use the item, you'll have to block the evolution every time the Pokemon gains a level, as far as I'm aware.
Good to know. Well, at this point, I'm all about evolving them. There's only one I don't ever want to evolve, and that's Trubbish.
I'll probably evolve mine eventually. Or at least some of them. Anyway, why don't you want to evolve Trubbish?
He's so friggin cute! I can't stand to evolve him.
He *is* a cutie. Of course, I think most of the un-evolved ones are cute.
