During his keynote speech at the 2011 Game Developers Conference a few minutes ago, Nintendo's Satoru Iwata mentioned that a new Mario game is being developed for the 3DS. (I know, what a shocker!)
Along with a few, small screenshots of the still-in-the-works title, Iwata shared the following logo:
Does this mean the next game in this vaunted series, which is being developed by the folks responsible for Super Mario Galaxy, will mark the return of Raccoon Mario? I sure hope so.
When is Kuribo's Shoe and Tanooki suit coming back? My biggest questions. Even though racoon Mario would be a welcoming idea as well! :)
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm with you, Linnea! I like the raccoon suit well enough, but I like the tanooki suit and kuribo's shoe even more.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I'd like? Another New Super Mario Bros. Wii title that incorporates more elements from SMB 3 and Super Mario World :)
Hmm this could be interesting as I haven't been interested in Mario games since Super Mario 64. This would be a great way to show off a new Mario although you have to wonder the lack of originality by Nintendo....
ReplyDeleteI can see where you're coming from, FF -- regarding your comment about NIntendo's lack of originality at times -- but I'm pretty confident this new Mario game won't just be SMB 3 + SM 64.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as much as people love to rip them for releasing new iterations of Mario, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, etc., I'm not sure what else they could do. To survive as a company, they have to continue to produce these games that people want while also producing new IPs.
It's a balancing act, basically, and I personally think they've done a good job of providing new and old gaming experiences, esp. during this last generation (DS and Wii).
Well I'm excited and, I have more reason to save for a 3DS. As if I was lacking any of that beforehand. I was always annoyed as a kid that more traditional Mario elements such as Raccoon Mario were never incorporated into 64 so uhh, rectified? Yay?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's how I've always felt, too, Suika. Why can't we have the Raccoon Suit or the Tanooki Suit or Kuribo's Shoe in a 3D Mario? Well, I guess we may get some of those things soon enough :)
ReplyDeleteI peed.
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, I can see why you may have done that :)
ReplyDeleteIt would also be really cool if they made New super mario bros 2. With the concept from SMB 2 on the NES. To play as Princess Peach again (in a game she doesn't cry to proceed the levels) would be nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, I would *love* a New Super Mario Bros. 2, Linnea. I think I've said this here before, but in case I haven't: Super Mario Bros. 2 is pretty much my favorite of the 8-bit Mario games. At the very least, I play it more than I play SMB, Lost Levels and SMB 3.
ReplyDeleteRobb and I were talking about a New Super Mario Bros 2 the other day! How weird...
ReplyDeleteSadly, SMB 2/USA probably is the least likely to be remade or to inspire a new SMB, IMO :(
