Pshaw, I say.
That's not to say Bubble Bobble 2--or Bubble Bobble Part 2, as it was called in the States--is completely unenjoyable or unplayable, but it certainly can't hold a candle, especially in terms of graphics and sound, to Bubble Bobble's real sequels, Rainbow Islands and Parasol Stars.
Despite its relative suckiness, complete-in-box copies of Bubble Bobble Part 2 command a pretty penny on eBay. (This one is going for about $450, for instance, while this one is going for a whopping $600!)
Yeah...I've tried to play it more than once, but everything that is charming about the original is absent in this one, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYou've hit the nail squarely on the head, Justin -- although it plays "well enough," it lacks pretty much everything that made the original (or Rainbow Islands or Parasol Stars) charming, fun, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what the folks at Taito were thinking -- other than, "free money!" -- when they made it...
I can't even imagine...I mean...I understand a sequel is supposed to be better, and the graphics and sound are technically "better," if better means more advanced, but the play control is crap, the music has no charm, and the enemy sprites are ugly, at best.
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree, Justin -- it's a trainwreck all around. I was amazed how boring and generic the graphics and music were/are when I played the game a few days ago. Ugh.
