After putting more hours into it than I care to admit, I've decided to take a bit of a break from Dragon Quest IX.
This isn't the first time I've had to step away from a game with which I've become a tad obsessed. Most recently, I played Animal Crossing: City Folk to the point that it felt like I saw my in-game "friends" more than my flesh-and-blood ones.
Does this ever happen to any of you? Do you become so enamored with a particular game that you play it whenever you have a second to spare?

Oh, definitely. All the time. Any time a new Zelda game comes out, I basically do noting but go to work and play Zelda.
DQ9 is starting to lose its luster for me, too. And I still never found a map higher than lvl 20.
Oh, that sucks about DQIX, Justin. I wish I could tell you why you're not getting higher-level maps, but I don't understand it myself.
The last map I tried working my way through was a level 91 map. Got to the end boss twice and had my ass handed to me. I've also gone in just to grab loot on two or three occasions -- and had my ass handed to me. (I'm actually able to make it to the last level of the grotto pretty easily, but on that level I'm sometimes surprised by a gang of really difficult enemies who proceed to pummel me into non-existence.)
Unless you are a leveling-whore, Dragon Quest games are very unforgiving when it comes to low level combat. It's the reason why I put down a lot of the Dragon Quest games myself. I also would put down a game if the characters become too annoying to tolerate.
Actually, I am a grinding/leveling whore. That said, I think I'm a bit under-leveled for a level 90-ish grotto.
