Guess what I just grabbed off of our doorstep? If you guessed "a PC Engine," give yourself a pat on the back.
Yep, I (finally) bought NEC's little white wonder. I've wanted one ever since I first read about--and saw pictures of--the system in the first issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. (Or was it the first issue of Video Games and Computer Entertainment? It doesn't really matter, does it?)
Anyway, here's a photo of the system's--my system's--surprisingly pristine box:
The system came with six games--Barunba, Cyber Dodge, F1 Circus, Fire Pro Wrestling 2nd Bout, Street Fighter II' Champion Edition and Wonder Momo--though, honestly, the only one I give a hoot about is Street Fighter II.
I also picked up, separately, copies of PC Genjin, PC Genjin 2 and Pro Tennis World Court. (Yes, I'm one of the few people in the world who enjoys playing Namco's "tennis RPG.")
Now if I could just find an AV Booster--or an inexpensive-but-still-in-working-order CD-ROM² system--on eBay...

That's a sweet box. Kind of a crummy list of games, but I'm sure you'll fix that. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on F1 Circus -- the CD version (F1 Circus Special) is legendarily bad.
To clarify, I meant the six games that came with the system, as the Genjins are certainly respectable!
Oh, it's definitely a crummy list of games -- isn't that usually the case with such things (system + games auctions), though? :)
RE: F1 Circus -- honestly, it's entirely possible I'll never play it. I mean, the only kind of racing games I seem to enjoy are of the Mario Kart variety. Still, maybe I'll throw it in at some point for kicks.
I probably won't play the wrestling game, either. Also, I tried Barunba and Wonder Momo in the past and didn't like either, so they'll probably sit on the shelf, too.
Anyway, I've got quite a "to buy" list of HuCards at this point. It's going to take me some time to acquire all of them, of course, but that's OK -- it'll force me to spend quality time with the games I already have (i.e., the Genjins and the tennis game).
Is Gekisha Boy on your "to buy" list? It's kind of expensive, and it's not a keeper, but those first few playthroughs are priceless.
I don't play many HuCards -- I usually stick to CDs -- but that was a cool one. And of course you will have to give Night Creatures a try. IvaNEC convinced me to forego my anti-card snobbery and pick that one up... rarely have I laughed so hard. He'll be able to offer many more card recommendations than I can.
ALSO A RANDOM NOTE:
My blog's domain name came through, it's at www.unlimitedzigworks.com now. (Well, the old address still works, but using the new one is better in case it ever has to move to a different server or something.)
Oh, yeah, Gekisha Boy's definitely on "the list," despite its high price tag. Others: Alien/Devil's Crush, Don Doko Don, Gunhed, Mizubaku Daibouken, New Zealand Story, Obocchama Kun, Parasol Stars...
I'll also have to give Night Creatures a try at some point.
I used to have an anti-HuCard bias, too, at least to an extent, but I've come to like a lot of them lately. That said, I still plan on buying the CD-ROM2 system at some point (aka soon).
Finally, I changed the link to your site. Thanks for letting me know about it!
Well, I have vicarious butterflies for your new video game romance!
LOL! Thanks Justin :)
